Not a thread capping on Exum but a thread posing a couple thoughts. Before the season I thought Favors, Hayward, Burks, and Gobert could be quite a good core. I thought Exum would have to be the superstar though. Dante is clearly a ways away and we will need to exercise some serious patience. He may be 2 or 3 years away from being a good starting caliber point guard on a playoff team. Our other core guys are going to be ready sooner... Like next year. My question...

Do we wait on Exum? Do we bring in a decent veteran to help us make the playoffs while Exum develops? Theoretically this place holder was supposed to be Burke, but that **** ain't working. Or do we use Exum, our draft pick, and anything else not named Gobert, Favors, or Hayward to get Russell. He'll be much more NBA ready than Exum will be next year and I'm fairly convinced he is going to be at least a poor mans Lillard. So what do we do?

If we could Nab Russell, I'd say go for it as long as we are not trading Gtime, Rudy, or Favs. Russell is Steph Curry James Harden-esk.

Honestly, We are gonna need to get pretty lucky with a draft pick. Klay Thompson at 11 type of luck. And if it takes Exum for years, not a huge deal. Hayward will only be 28, so he'll have 5-6 prime years left hopefully.

You bring in a service-able back-up and you have him split time with Exum - there will be plenty available at the end of the season. Aaron Brooks, Steve Blake, Lin, CJ Watson just to throw some names out there. There are no big name PG's that are going to come to Utah when they know the Utah FO is going to give Exum every chance to succeed and then some. Anyway, I'd rather spend money on an SG.

However, the reality is there is probably a 75% chance that Burke is still on the roster coming into training camp next season.

I think that if we have another solid wing player to pair with Hayward who can score Exum will be fine as a starter next year. He is doing a decent job of distributing and I think his ability to hit threes will improve. I think he will improve all around next year. All we need from a pg with next years lineup (assuming we have a decent sf or sg to pair with hayward, which might be burk) is the ability to get us into the offense, make smart good passes, play defense and hit open threes with a decent clip that makes the other team respect him out there. I think Exum can do that. I think if he finds a way to starting driving and scoring at a decent rate than it is a huge plus and this team will be pretty good next year.

You wait. It'll be worth it. Bring in one of the following (my ranking is in order of desire):

Corey Joseph
Beno Udrih
Patrick Beverley
Aaron Brooks
Jeremey Lin

This will be the most important offseason move

Assuming we trade burkes, sure. I would like Lin or Corey Joseph to come in and take some of the load off Exum and they would be okay with knowing even if they start at first they probably will be a backup though-out their time in Utah. That is also assuming we get them for a decent contract.

I bring in one of those guys regardless of whether we trade Burke. He'll be in year 3... the safety net is gone. If he gets beat out for minutes, then so be it. BTW, every one of those guys besides Brooks can guard the 2 (less so for Lin), so acquiring one doesn't necessarily erase Burke, even if he does poorly.

Interesting quote by Snyder recently...

Hoops Hype: It appears the Jazz are trying to feature Exum as a defender and distributor. His assist-to-turnover ratio is nearly 2-1 and Snyder is going to continue to keep him in the starting lineup.

“He’s been consistent in the fact that he’s defended,” Snyder said. “I think our entire group is getting the ball pushed across halfcourt quicker. I like the fact that he sets that example early in the game. I think it’s helped everyone. I think the combination of him being out there with Gordon [Hayward] has settled him a little bit, which is significant. His ability to defend the ball can be a difference-maker for our group. He’s not consistent enough. I still think he gets tired. “I’m asking him to play at a pretty high level of intensity for a guy who’s 19. First he has to play at that level before he can duplicate it all the time.” - Boston Globe

Our PG spot is pretty locked up. Burke is if not will be the best pg off the bench in the league. Hell he was passable as a starter and he hasnt even reached his prime.

I maybe alone in this but i hope the Jazz stay patt on this roster and see it grow. We are blessed with potential. Like the Seatle Super when they had KD, RW and JH.

Hell we got. GH, DF, EK, AB and DE. All are blue chips. My felow fans of Jazz: $tay calm and carrt on. Were going to be great.

Mario Hezonja.

I think when you draft a guy with so much expectations and you give him the role of starting 5. You roll with him and stick it out. But I agree with Candrew with bringing in a good backup to help out and split minutes. I think Exum will be solid in 3 years.

My worry is not that Hayward will still be good but rather can we keep him if we haven't made significant progress towards making the playoffs or contending. If solver restructures the playoff seeding the problem may fix itself, but if not I have a hard time seeing us make the playoffs in the west unless Dante makes a huge jump. I think he's capable of it and next year will be very telling to see the amount of progress he has made.

Thanks for all of the answers... Good stuff.

At very least, Exum starting allows Hayward to handle the ball and create more. I think it's important for Gordon to continue to develop his skills as a go-to scorer. We finally saw him take over a game the other night and allowing him to do so for the rest of the season is crucial. I think Exum will contribute more with time, but right now his 5th option status is helping our other go-to players to develop. If Exum has a major set back next season I see the Jazz making a move to improve the PG position, but to be honest it's not the most important need when you have a point-forward like Hayward.

Pretty amazing that TB will still NOT push the ball up the court. How difficult is that Trey? Never gets anything in transition, cannot run a FB, cannot make a contested layup.

Sorry but anything referencing the word 'Waiting' reminds me of this gem

Oh yeah baby..
Exum, grow a beard.

Here is one thing that everyone seems to be ignoring, Exum may be our best perimeter defender already. Sure he's behind shooting and scoring but he distributes well and defends at a high level already.

This is a perfect example. No one is questioning if Russell is better offensively, but I doubt he'll be as good defensively coming into the league.

Exum is 2-3 years away in my opinion. So I think that Burke is on his way out and a starting PG will come in with Exumt he primary back up who gets about 25 mpg between the 1 and 2 next year.

Not really.
