Wall or Shutdown

Lol. Such hilarity. Complains about not wanting to engage because of insults, then questions anything as if it's supposed to be an insult.

Worst poster on the board. Said that several times. So much lack of self recognition.

Bulletproof is typically a good poster so I’m curious about what he actually believes about this topic. If I’m such a bad poster why are you posting in my thread? Talk about hilarity

You'll notice I don't. Just happened to this time. If I want to know your opinions I'll just look at the Democrats' platform. Much less annoying.

This. He needs to be smarter if he wants to draw more people towards voting for Democrats. Maybe if his narrative wasn’t so extreme I would not lose interest in engaging in conversation with him.

Then stop posting. You and @Jazzta come in act like these threads are worthless yet keep posting. It’s a weird way of demonstrating your lack of interest.

Drawing people to vote for democrats is hardly what motivates me to post on this website.

I never said, implied, or insinuated that this thread is worthless.

What I am saying is that anything you post about is generally better read from the general Democrats' platform and should be, and generally is on this board anyway, treated as such.

You're the Democratic Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Baghdad Bob, This is Fine Dog of this board.

@Bulletproof In response to this post you called me a democratic fanboy:

It’s just a weird response to a series of posts asking two major questions:
  1. In 2021 will democrats push for major reforms (ex. Health care, gun control) since they’ll have control of all 3 levers of government?
  2. If senate republicans lower the threshold to 51, what long-term effects will that have?
Responding by calling someone a fanboy or a homer seems to be a weird way of answering these questions.
I'm not a fortune teller. I have no way to answer those "questions" other than to just guess.

Getting back to the boarder wall and our current shutdown...

I hope that no funding for a border wall is approved and that Trump pushes this shut down into the new term. This is Trump's shut down. He should die (figuratively) on this wall.

Drawing people to vote for democrats is hardly what motivates me to post on this website.

It’s to incite and drive a deeper wedge then?

Because that’s what your tone does. For me anyway and I think many here would agree with me. I’m a D and you’re so nauseating with your blind alignment with the party and deep-seated hatred for Republicans that it makes me want to vote R.

I see it's time for the weekly Thriller bashing. You know if he bugs you guys so much you can just ignore him.
I wasn't trying to bash or start a pile-on, but man is he not self-aware at all?

I don't want to ignore him. I do wish he could see the other perspective at times.

And if our criticisms of him bug you so much, you can ignore us.

The guy is ****ing absolutely annoying as **** with his ****.

I think he's plenty self aware, he just really hates Republicans. And honestly, who can blame him?

Oh wait, I forgot, around here it's only acceptable to believe that both parties are equally worthless, despite plenty of evidence to the contrary.

BTW insofar as I disagree with the Democrats it's generally on issues I feel they are too conservative on. Does that make me a blind party loyalist as well?

News to me.

News to ****ing me.

Since that is not how I feel at all.

So that is mind blowing information for me. Mind ****ing blown.

That's what you're going to say to me?

Are you even sort of ****ing serious?

Wherever the **** you have been for the last 2.5 years, it hasn't been here in discussions I've been involved in if that's what you're gonna say to me.

Jon Meacham, the presidential historian and author of "The Soul of America: The Battle for Our Better Angels," said the shutdown comes at a defining moment in America, as an anxious public yearns for Washington to calm down and start solving the nation's problems.

"In a sense, American history can be understood as a perennial battle between fear, which manifests itself in a politics and culture of exclusion and defensiveness, and hope, which manifests itself in inclusion and larger-heartedness," said Meacham, who delivered the Dec. 5 eulogy for former president George H.W. Bush.

"We're now immersed in a fearful time, a moment where we speak of walls and tariffs rather than the free flow of ideas and people and goods. But here's the good - or at least goodish - news: History tells us that hope tends to win in the long run. There's the Klan, but then there's Dr. [Martin Luther] King. There's Joe McCarthy, but then there's [President Eisenhower].

"Right now, there's Trump. But if folks work hard enough, soon there'll be a restoration of dignity and forward thinking. That's the task."
---------------
At this moment, it's Trump driving the "politics and culture of exclusion and defensiveness", and the only Republicans who are even willing to point that out are those who are retiring from Congress. As for @Thriller, I find he is following current events very closely, and he describes those current events as succinctly as anyone on this board. It's not his fault that Republicans are fine with being the party of Trump. It's not his fault that Trumpism is ascendant and Republicans are terrified of the president. Trump tweets, and Republicans cower. Fox News dictates domestic policy and Republicans cower.

Maybe Anne Coulter will be the next head of Homeland Security....

Communist scum...

I'm sorry my tone offends you. But rather than reacting defensively, why not reflect as to why so many historians and political scientists are so alarmed. Tom Nichols is hardly a liberal or an alarmist yet the tone he takes in his latest piece is far more severe than mine:

I truly don't think Americans understand the threat we are facing right now. Western democracy is under attack like never before.

I think many on this board have taken the cynical approach that both parties are the same, nothing changes after elections so voting really doesn't matter, and that in order to not appear as a "fanboy" you have to say "nice" things about the "other side." Otherwise, by not being balanced you are somehow being biased and not accurate. Which is silly, since accuracy and balance are two very different things.

I understand that labeling both parties the same was not your intention when you responded in this thread, but that's certainly a takeaway one might have gotten. Especially when you label a poster a "fanboy" as if that discredits the issues he has brought up.
