Warriors and Jazz Mega Trade

But I agree with you otherwise. I think this is the first time I have ever disagreed with him on something

Because of this trade.......

All of our young guys get big minutes.
We get Rush(6-11 wingspan) who is a very very good shooter and above average defender (better than anyone we could of got left in free agency)
Expiring contracts that give us flexibility to sign who we want next summer.
Expiring contracts that we could also trade for something of value.
2014 - 2017 1st round draft picks (unprotected)
multiple 2nd round draft picks.

All for Kevin Murphy?

No reason to complain on this one. Its pretty sweet actually. This roster is idiot proof for Corbin so he knows who to play. lol But who knows I could underestimate Corbin.

Remember Jazz Fanz whining and complaining about something doesn't make you smart. :)

I think this is the "unsung hero" of this deal.

I predict Lindsey will trade away at least 1 of the expiring contracts right at the trade deadline - and go into "full tank mode" for the remainder of the season.

That would be my plan anyway... we'll see.

People complain the Jazz are conservative and never make a move then they do and complain about that. Some people just like to complain and not be happy and/or only want things exactly the way they want it and nothing short of that will keep them from crying (like a spoiled kid).

Personally at first I wasn't in love with this trade but once all the details came out and trying to keep GSW's perspective of this deal I don't think it is a bad deal, obviously a better deal if you could have included Barnes (who I like but think he's being over liked/valued by some here based on him playing PF in the playoffs) but hard to argue 2 unprotected picks, that 2017 pick is so far out it could be like the NYK's pick from PHX, hard to predict being so far out.

As for Rush I remember lots of people being high on him before last years injury and hoping the Jazz could sign him and if he doesn't work out fine he's expiring as well.

Rush will have some value to a contending team if he performs like in 2011, 50% FG 45% 3PT% is very rare from a SG. Coming back from an ACL is never easy though.

I was just reading Brandon Rush's Wikipedia page. Has he really had three ACL surgeries? The Wikipedia article mentions 2007, 2010 and then there is the one from last year as well.

The article mentions 2 injuries. 2007 and 2011.

There's just no pleasing you people. Haha jk

I kind of feel like this was the move Lindsey was saying that would make jazz fans cringe a little. I have to admit I cringed, but I now see the bright future ahead.

I'm sorry, I meant 2007 and 2012. Two total.

It's ok I misread the article. The 2010 date was when they discovered that it was an illegal workout where he had had the first ACL injury in 2007. Still two ACL injuries aren't great. Hopefully he bounces back more quickly than Al did after his.

The second one shouldn't impact his game much, his offense was already close to 80% jumpers in 2011.

Why would we want to do that? We want those expirings. Trading one away would mean we would take on a multiple year contract. We want the space to be able to sign our own guys.

So I am going to say no. You are wrong. We will not trade one of those away. They all will expire.

Book it.

Then we might play the game again next year with less room and get like one pick next time.

I feel better about the deal now that Howard has (apparently) picked Houston. The only way to get Barnes was for the Warriors to get Howard. With that not happening, I'm not nearly as ticked as I was when this thing was first reported. I still think that they should have played hardball, but I can understand them making the deals that they did if the major addition was Iggy. Still sucks, but I feel better about it.

2 ACLs for a SG is a lot. Rush is shot, anything we can get out of him is a bonus. In fact, we are getting 3 pathetic scrubs as a part of this deal, and that's the best part about it! A steep price to pay for 2 first round picks, but it fills out a roster with bunch of back-ups, which is exactly what we need.

Technically, the Jazz have FOUR expirings: Jefferson, Biedrins, Rush and Williams. Plenty of cap room to trade one or even two of them for assets and let the other two expire in order to free up room to re-sign Favors and Hayward. I'm not optimistic, though. We had the ability to help some teams avoid the tax. But I trust Lindsey. He probably looked around, saw that teams were already starting to get their financial houses in order, save the franchises that can afford the tax and don't care about it (Lakers, Brooklyn, etc.). With what Lindsey did, I'm very excited about next year's draft. I just can't see Utah winning more than 25-30 games. A lottery pick, GS' pick and a chance to sign one additional good FA if we want.

As a side note: I can't say we really helped GS get better either. Iggy added to Klay and Barnes seems like a lot of headaches and issues with managing egos/hurt feelings.

I think we ****ing fleeced them if these pics are indeed unprotected.

If the picks stay in the mid-20's then we didn't accomplish much...unless the Jazz can trade up by combining picks. But that's going to be hard to do next year; those top 6-7 picks are going to be VERY valuable. And forget about trying to trade up from #3 to 1 or 2, That ain't gonna happen. In terms of payroll, it's a wash, I think. Jazz would have to pay the difference between floor and actual. This moves handcuffs what we can do at the deadline, so who knows if we could have gotten better assets in return. AS for the picks, there are usually 1 or 2 teams willing to sell a late 1st, just like what happened this year.
