What's new

Way too early prediction after 2 games

Gobert looked pissed in a bad way last night at the end of the game. It didn’t look like he was just pissed they lost badly. Like maybe he’s not thrilled with Conley or something look. How has Conley (or anyone for that matter) been at getting him involved?

Well gobert is playing worse statistically this year than any year in his career so the answer to your question is probably not very good. And it makes sense that he is pissed

We’d have much greater issues if our players weren’t pissed after last night. I’ve seen a lot of clunkers since I started watching us in the mid 90s and that game was top 5. It was unbearable to watch. I only kept watching it because I was too exhausted to get up and pick up the remote.

our offense last year executed well and got good open looks. People were just missing shots. Now it appears we can’t even execute to get open looks. Did we go more than four straight possessions without missing shots/committing a turnover?

The lakers were dropping 2 in the paint. The counter was the 3 ball which didn’t happen, to go along with not turning the ball over. It wasn’t his night to shine offensively.

I hope Conley doesn't continue to have is pocket picked or have the ball stripped from him while driving. Elite PGs clean that part of their game up. He looks like ballin is foreign to him. I'm sure that many years playing for one team and then switching has messed with him mentally. His quote of, "feels like I'm in quicksand and the harder I try and get out, the more I sink" is a perfect analogy.

He'll be fine, I hope. But damn, let's forget about these last two games.

I knew it would be a bit rough at first, but it's worse than I thought. Trying to get people on the same page in motion sets on offense when using instincts to read and react depending on what the defense is doing/allowing has led to some unwatchable ball. They were lucky to escape against OKC and it was solely because of Mitch. Uncertainty always leads to sloppy which translates to less effort/concentration on d. I think only losing by nine is actually a reason for optimism. Ingles is kinda useless until the offense is running a bit more smooth.

The fact of the matter is after you have won 18 of 20 games and averaged close to 25-30 assists while blowing out most of those teams you've played, it would be foolish to trade away two of the more valuable assets responsible for those 18 wins and hope it will make you better! We had an offensive chemistry the end of last year that was 2nd to none in the league and was setting records in easy baskets, dunks and a very fun team to watch! I don't know who talked management into unloading Ribino and Favors and signing Conely, but they should have there head examine about right now!

Really glad you put this in two threads so we can fully appreciate your displeasure. Clearly you were infatuated with mediocrity because it was largely fun to watch. You need to imagine that exact same offense with hitters instead of shooters. We did regress defen(sievely), it's true. But really, chicken little, the sky hasn't fell, it's two games.

We knew going into the season that we were thin at PF, then Bojan goes down with an ankle sprain. Quin played Nang, not because he wanted to, but because he ran out of bodies. Is it any wonder that our offense sucked last night?

"infatuated with mediocrity"
I wouldn't describe 18 out of 20 wins as mediocrity!

I'll be watching again tonight on free League Pass. If the Jazz look worse than last night, what will be your response then?

Correct CJ! 18 out of 20 isn't mediocrity, winning 45-48 games and bowing out 1st round or broomed in 2nd is. That was the ceiling with Ribino, though not necessarily Favors. He wanted the same money and Utah just couldn't provide the opportunity to deserve it. As long as the periods of chaos and hesitancy dwindle each game, I'm fine with the outcome. Seeing the continuity they had last year isn't just going to happen without a lot of trial/error and many, many repetitions, probably about game 25 we should start to see extended periods of good, team basketball. They have individually enough talent to win games despite lack of cohesion evidenced in the home opener. A smooth, well-oiled, efficient machine is not happening in the next ten days, but I expect it to progress.

The Jazz definitely need size and athleticism in the frontcourt aside from Rudy. Jeff Green doesn't look like a guy we can count on for physicality or consistency. This probably needs to be addressed, although Royce has been playing pretty well overall. Bogdanovic is going to float on the perimeter.

Exum could help our size and athleticism in the backcourt. On a spaced floor, he could be a real menace.

Conley can't possibly continue to be this awful.

Conley was always a favorite of mine. I tuned in last night to see him...and he looked like somebody not named Mike Conley.

It was odd but he did look smaller than I ever saw him -- both physically and in his play. I know the NBA now has to release accurate height measurements, the NBA should just release this for Conley:

Face it, you guys got slaughtered by a team that got slaughtered by the Clippers. Utah is as close to a championship run as my Knicks. Utah is on the way down, not up.
Here's a picture of Conley telling his agent to get him out of Utah. "Trade me right f***ing now!"

Don’t judge a Snyder team until January.

This team will be okay.

Conley may never be worth $30 million again, but he’ll be better than Rubio.

So you want Conley on your knicks.

What does "Knicks" stand for? Funny pants?

1. Yes. Conley is a top player. Maybe your guys just don't know how to play with him. On our team he would be the best player. We would let him play 48 minutes and let him take fifty shots.

2. What does 'Knicks' stand for? New York City...NYC...knicks (say NYC as a word)
There are other stories as to why we are called the Knicks (I don't like the knickerbocker pants one because it's really a racial slur. Dutchmen were called knickerbockers/knicks because of the goofy pants they wore); but the NYC reason why we are called Knicks is one I invented so it is correct.

Obviously, this was the Jazz we were hoping to see all along. Of course, being red hot from the 3 point line sure helped out a lot, and our defense was pretty stout again to say the least. Our hot shot from Indiana was a joy to watch and shoot! Our next few games seem winnable to me, so this years start is going to be much better than last years start, that's for sure. They duplicate what they did tonight, I may invest in League Pass Jazz games only!
