We can beat the zone w/o 3-point shoots!

Coach Ty said it too; we simply have to run our sets quicker. Guys need to cut HARD, not trot like we usually do. And pass the ball with a purpose, not these soft marshmellow things. Then the guy getting the pass needs to be ready to shoot it NOW, or pass it back out. The idea that the only way to beat the zone is 3-point shots is the "lazy" way out, but realistically it's not as reliable...

Zones are always looser in the pros precisely because players can shoot. So the seams are bigger. Attack the seams, catch defenders in space, and there's plenty of buckets.

Really! We don't seem to have had much success with the reliable method. If only our players would just listen to the coach and try da** **!!

Don't mean to yank your chain "Not Dead Yet" but i do get weary of hearing from the Jazz staff how we don't have shooters, we don't have any athletic players, we don't give enough effort, we have nobody who can go one-on-one and break down the defense etc. Ever notice how often the other team seems to score effortlessly while our offense looks like a Salmon trying to swim up stream? Ever notice how many players wearing our colors seem to think twice when faced with an open shot, while their counterparts blaze away and rip the nets up? It's the way the game is played these days. There is signs of change (alley-oops for example) but it is slow coming. Now, if they would just approve the wearing of headbands.

Of course there's another way to beat the zone, and the Jazz should do that. But nothing kills a zone faster than a team that can punish a zone from the outside. Outside shooting facilitates an offense as much as cutting hard and setting good screens.

When you are surrounded by 3 big chicks on the dance floor would you casually look for an escape route or fake one way wand hit the open seam that may only be open for that split second?

There's another option.

But the Jazz can't shoot, so the seams are presumably not bigger. We continually get and keep players who cannot shoot.

The Jazz basically have lost two of franchise's all time best 3pt shooters in Korver and Okur. DWill was also a reliable shooter especially in clutch moments. It was obvious that the lack of consistent shooters who gets attention of opponent defenses would create some offensive problems.

The coaching staff knows it very well, and they could've prepared for Zone; after all the Jazz are not the only team in the NBA that is over-dependent on inside scoring. IMO, having just 2 preseason games + little time to work on offense in training camp (because Corbin put all the emphasis on defense, which has vastly improved compared to previous seasons) prevented such a precaution and is the main reason for inability of the team to execute against a Zone.

I'm not ignoring the fact that the Jazz need consistent shooters, not volume shooters who needs to shoot many to be efficient, and I'm not criticizing the management for not bringing in shooters to replace the production of Kyle, Memo etc.

As I said before, if the Jazz really want to make a push for playoffs -which is not easy considering how tough the West has been and how favorable the schedule has been for the Jazz- they need a scorer shooting guard.
