We Got Swindled by Sexton (And Eddie Zero Sucks)

I think the deal is low end starter money, and to me he looks like he is not too far from being a low end starter at PG. Since he is just 24 and we had Conley who could "mentor him" or whatever, I don't think he was a negative assett in the trade. I think it was bench plan all along, and him bringing high energy to court once he gets his number called. And then at some point, maybe trade Conley or have him naturally take over the starting position if it pans out.

Remember the cap is climbing in a hurry. Good bench guards are gonna be 9-11M pretty soon, and low end starters are gonna be hitting close to 20, especially if they are young and have shown promise.

Yes, Sexton was not worth going into the tax for. They gave him a generous offer
I think your take on this is very unoriginal, and wrong on many levels.
There are a number of reasons that go into what any org can and will do, regarding player contracts, that has nothing to do with player value to them, and simply league value off injury benefits the team in RFA.
Klutch sports also represents Darius Garland coming off 1 breakout season where he could not carry them into the playoffs albeit not injured, and the same people who managed to get Cleveland to push it all in on Garland, somehow could not get Sexton paid as well? No . They had more options than just Cleveland hence what we have here. ( a failure to communicate) Sexton not getting any offers Klutch approved of coming off injury, including the Cavs tax based offer, any other the Cavs would have matched , including any in the range he is paid now; it's common knowledge how much they liked him. He just didn't get any offers coming off a major injury. Teams accross the league overpaid there own players big time this summer, so anyone like yourself thinking Sexton or Klutch, or Ainge, Swindled them as a Jazz fan, does not by any means understand what took place at all. He got paid what he deserves and is on a baragain if he gets better end of story.

Yeah and they use other contracts to benchmark position and production as well when making these deals if there is no bidding competition. If we look at PG on their 2nd contract around the same salary levels:
  • Dejounte Murray - 26 years - similar deal
  • Tyus Jones - 26 years - similar cap number but much worse overall deal
  • Markelle Fultz - 24 years - similar cap number but worse deal
None of those guys had the paper production Sexton had (remember that Murray got his in 2020 when his season best line had been 10.9/5.8/4.1 in 25 minutes of average time), and while Fultz was an awesome prospect at one point but when you factor in his production and health history, it makes sense he is on a worse deal than Sexton.

This is high level message board “play both sides so I have posts to reference showing I was right either way”.

Elite stuff my brother.
IF Sexton becomes a good starter who is contributing to winning, I'm clearly wrong.

I dont see how this a both sides at all.

I've clearly stated how I view Sexton. I said he's about an 8 million dollar per year player. He's a bench player. He's going to have some good moments for sure, but all in all he's too small and not good enough all-around to be a top bench player or starter in today's NBA.

You got swindled. I said he was a dumbass who put up some decent stats one year. His low iq is well documented. How you thought he was good is beyond me.

Hopefully Sexton continues to play well and we can include him in a package to the Lakers for both picks. Sexton is represented by Rich Paul.

Who? Sexton is averaging 13 ppg.

But Sexton is averaging the second most points per 100 possessions per game at 30.4 just behind Lauri at 30.7 and also shooting the best % of anyone not a center or 7' Tall. He is also getting to the FT line at a much better rate than anyone on the team. I think things are pretty promising for him so far and he is still very young and adjusting/recovering from injury.
Reading must be hard.
17.7 avg per on the contract is not bad, given future cap raises and such.

How do the people who are higher on Sexton feel about this? Would you include Sexton in a Gay/Beasley/Conley package for both picks?

So sexton, beasley, conley, and gay for picks and westbrick?

No thanks. That guts our team and all this fun stops. Who plays point? Westbrick?

I don’t think either team does it anymore. Westbrook seems to have turned a corner and looks like the Westbrook of old.

The Jazz are just doing to well to break it down. I think they value Conley in a mentor role (and he helps Lauri’s development) and I think Sexton is a good player that they are trying to bring along ‘the right way’ and turn him into a borderline all star.

I just personally don’t think you’re getting both pics from the Lakers. I think at best it’s an unprotected 27 or 29 and a swap.

But we shall see.

I have a feeling that Sexton is about to blow up. It takes a little while coming back from an injury to trust your body again and gain that confidence back. We are starting to see stretches now every game where he takes over. Give him a few more weeks and I think he will be playing the best ball of his career.
