Don't think your math is correct. Once Utah is under the cap, they can only spend up to the cap and then have the room exception to use. So you can't accomplish what you've outlined. Well, I guess if you also renounce Korver. That frees up additional cap space. But this mythical scorer/shooter will probably be a 3rd-tier FA Utah would need to significantly overpay. Might be better for Lindsey to shop at the deadline. He could have a wide array of assets. And tbh, dumping Exum would cost the Jazz an asset. He's always been questionable, now he's damaged goods...again.This is why we need to renounce Rubio, trade Exum for a bag of chips, and also try to opt out of Favors and extend him (he’s too valuable to us imo) at a cheaper price per annum. That would free up almost 30M. I’d say go after a stud but I can’t imagine we ever get one.
Sign Satoransky on day one of FA. He’d be a big upgrade over Rubio at this point. Then use the rest of our money (we’d have a significant amount) to sign the best FA scorer/shooter we can. There’s a number of guys that route who’d be a monstrous upgrade over what Exum’s brought to the table. After that, I’d strongly consider re-signing Sef as I think he’s a versatile glue guy who brings great leadership and intangibles and seems like he genuinely likes being here.
Those additions along with a healthy Mitchell for the whole year (he wasn’t right the first two months) should result in a 55 win season or so imo.
