What's new

Welcome back to Salt Lake - Mo Williams

There is people who have depression problems, then there are people who can't play basketball just because they aren't in LA.

There are some players who struggle when they play in NY. His whole point was this guy is happiest & most productive in LA. Doesn't really matter the reason why.

Right now it's Harris, Williams, Bell, Carroll, Millsap, Jefferson, Evans. More than four.

evans doesn't currently have a contract, so who knows what his situation will be. could be playing on a one-year QO deal, could be resigned for a couple years, or he could be playing elsewhere.

You would want Mo as the only guy on the 3 point line strong side when Jefferson has the ball on the post rather than Harris, that's for sure.

sure, but if you need a guy to put pressure on defenses by creating drive-and-dish situations, you need harris. harris is also a much better pick-and-roll player.

the two have very different strengths...a nd don't get me wrong, that's actually a good thing.

there is such a thing as too many players playing for a contract. It can lead to greed/selfishness.
I'd extend our leader (Millsap) + trade our ball-and-chain (Al).

I'm excited Mo Williams is coming back to Utah, but am trying to figure out how big of an upgrade he is over D. Harris. I think he's a decent upgrade, obviously better than D. Harris. Happy, but I'm not going nuts over it. Ignore the attachment.

He's not an upgrade. Harris is a better pg, and driver, and better in the open court and better defender and playmaker Mo is a better scorer from the outsid, something we didn't have much of last year. I would like to see how having both works out the first half of the year if there's not a significant improvement dump someone at the trade deadline, but I think both could coexist quite nicely.

I'd also like to see both on the floor at the same time. Harris showed he could be a threat from deep shooting 38% from 3. If he can shoot 35-38%, then great. Because at the same time we can have Mo, and Hayward as threats as well. That would make it much harder to double team Al and Millsap, giving them more room to work. Let's just hope Millsap and Al become more willing passers.

Williams met with Utah GM Kevin O'Connor before deciding to opt in. Williams wants to start again at the point after moving for CP in L.A.

I'm getting excited about this.

Not to mention Harris could be moved for another piece this summer. If not straight away.

Just got a text from Mo: "We had that option in our contract for a reason. We just need(ed) to sit back and look at all our options, and the more I thought about it, it was only the right thing to do.

Hmmm... it's hard to turn down $8.5m but he probably wanted to come back as well...

I'm sure he could have got the mid-level (if that still exists) deal in the 5-6M/yr range for 4 or 5 years. But he could probably still get that next year or even more plus the 8.5 this year.

if mo and devin play together, mo is the one at the 2, at least on offense. he's better spotting up, better as a catch-and-shooter, while harris is better creating, driving, and passing.
