What's new

Well...so much for trading AK.

Also, there's one other important thing to remember everyone: Expiring contracts won't be worth diddly this year as long as teams like Cleveland and Toronto are sitting on massive trade exceptions and several other teams (Nets, Kings, Wolves, etc.) are well under the cap.

I know KOC is smart and won't trade him for nothing. But this means its going to be much harder to get any value from him. Maybe the best thing is just to let him expire, and then see if he wants to return on the cheap. If not then we have capspace for a pretty good free agent.

The one positive is that if AK stays healthy, he will probably have a monster season since it is a contract year.

The Jazz will not have cap space by letting AK expire. They assured that when the traded for Jefferson. They will have space under the luxury tax maybe but then the most they could spend would be MLE. Which every other team in the league will also have.

That said I would prefer they not trade Ak anyway and then sign him to a new more reasonable contract next summer.

AK pays the jazz instead of the Jazz paying him?

I remember him saying last season that he wants to re-up with the Jazz once his contract is up, possibly at a discount. If he plays well, we should definitely sign him on the cheap.

I want to know what everyone's idea of cheap is and how it compares to what AK thinks cheap is. I have a sneaky feeling that it's quite a wide gap.

**** AK. He'll expire before we know it. We need to ship Okur's *** out of town pronto and for nothing. Literally. I would trade him to Washington or New Jersey or some other team with cap space for nothing. Imagine Kendrick Perkins returning to form and signing here next year. I'd um...ya know.

AK said he wanted to re-sign here before a billionaire bought the Nets. Also, the Nets need to add salary because no one of note signed there (sorry, Bo Outlaw). La Fleur de Lys will do just fine in Brooklyn.

I would guess he's going to want something around Okur money. I would also guess the Jazz offer slightly less. They should basically be offering something around 4 years that barely averages out to 9 (Odom money.) They could also do a 5 year deal with lower averaged salaries for the extra guaranteed money, or a higher 3 year deal.

If we re-sign AK to anything even remotely close to Odom money, we're ****ing retarded.

Maybe I should clarify. I think a deal averaged at 9 is the upper limit of what the Jazz should offer. Turkoglu was overpaid. Odom might be a little overpaid, but the Lakers structured his contract well (3rd year salary at 9, 4th year team option.) In next year's thin FA market, AK will get paid at around those numbers. His agent is going to have those numbers real handy in negotiations. So they're going to be floating around in the room. The Jazz should try 4 @ 32. I think they should settle with 4 @ 36 if they have to, others will disagree.

IAWTP.
Kind of like what Mattthews really meant by saying he would have taken less to re-sign with Utah.

Again, if we re-sign AK to anything even remotely close to Odom money, we're ****ing retarded. You can say he'll get paid that because of a weak FA class next year (which it's not--Carmello, Ming, Perkins, Horford, etc.) but look at what somewhat similar players like Artest and Ariza got. Not 9 per. If we choose to even go 7M per, we're ****ing retarded. The eunuch has no heart, misses 20+ games a year, can't shoot, can't be depended on because of all of the above, and his signing will kill us in trying to get a legit defensive 5 (i.e., Perkins) while Williams is entering and in the prime of his career, or even worse, hinder our ability to re-sign Williams or Jefferson when that time comes.

I don't see Utah having cap space to sign anyone more than the MLE next year. They already have two max deals in DW and AJ. Based on info right now, I agree that 7 or 8 million is a good price tag for Kiri. If he does well, I hope that he considers staying.

Yet another example of a player who has been content playing in Utah--even though he's had his own drama and injury history.

AK is not worth 7, 8 or 9 million dollars a year. Considering his injuries and his declining production, the MLE is about all he is worth. Personally, I would be ok if he went somewhere else. The current AK is replaceable and for years many Jazz fans have overrated him.

Many Jazz fans have overrated him? Maybe the many know more than the few.
