There are times he simply blows by his defender. And there are other times he simply shuts down his offensive counterpart. Yes, he has to get better and more consistent. If both he and Royce can make improvements, we would have the best defending perimeter in the NBA with Mitchell, Exum, Royce and Crowder.

Definitely not the series you want to be without Ricky, we're going to have our hands full. But I expect a much better showing on Wednesday.

When we lost game 5 in OKC this game was a scheduled loss, really hurt ourselves not being on the same schedule as Houston.
 
Jazz get a ton of mis-matches down low against Houston. They can't seem to take advantage most of the time .

I thought they played well in the second half. Wednesday should be more competitive. Maybe they can steal one.

Nope, that's why resigning Favors won't be happening.
 
I would like to have Favors back, but we need more offense. Dont think we can keep Favors (big man, okay O, decent D, excellent locker room) and Exum (potential, size, athleticism, decent D, suspect O) and get what we need (shooter, good offense, versatility)

No one is suggesting we dump exum either. X has about a week left on his contract. Joe and O’Neal are both under contract after next week.

Plus if we win game 5 Rubio is probably healthy.
I didn’t get to watch game 5 but I heard that Westbrook dude had a good game.
Maybe if the nba would have followed their own rules then Westbrook wouldn’t have played in that game, we would have won it, we would have been rested and prepared and had Ricky today and maybe got a win.

Oh well

Capella isn't going to post up. He outplays Gobert many times head to head because he's long and athletic whereas Adams was strong and tenacious. So I would get Capella out the paint by starting Crowder. Allow Exum and Mitchell to penetrate and finish/pitch. After about 4 minutes, we could bring Gobert in for O'Neale and then Favors after that. We could sprinkle in this small lineup throughout the game especially when we know Capella will be in.

I was thinking something similar but wont overreact to a game where we had no rest and Quin can still make adjustments...

However. If we do need to go for something radical I would look at something similar. I run and gun line up that either attacks the rim or gets open looks on kick outs.

Honestly, it looked like they finally decided to go at Harden and Paul on those switches down low. I remember how the sky was falling after the first game at OKC. I’ll wait to see how Quin/Donovan/Gobert respond. It seemed like they finally figured some stuff out on defense and offense there towards the end. Let’s see how they adjust moving forward.

And while Harden is no PG13, his performance tonight seemed VERY similar to that in game 1 against the Thunder. Jazz can’t try to go small and fast and have it work out very well. Stick with what got you there. . . it’s too bad that Thabo’s injury kept him from coming back. He’d be critical for matching up right now.
 
meh...we lost, but we were punting right? So it's not the end of the world...
I think we'll be more prepared and play much better in game 2. I saw things in the 2nd half that makes me believe that the Rockets aren't invincible.
 
Game 1 notes:

Not going to overreact due to our limited rest and Quins ability to make the correct adjustments. However.

* Our bigs got played off the court tonight. They both need to play more aggressive. Favors sucks in the post and I have no idea why... because of this we can't take advantage of that mismatch and I think we move away from Gobert and Favs lineups.

* James Harden was hitting everything, we need to execute and have them have an off shooting night.

* Neto did some nice things on Harden. Noticed a few times when Harden was getting into his rhyhm dribble Neto would jump forward on his 3rd dribble, really crowd him and force him to drive. I think we can have success if our perimeter defenders adopt this.

Adjustments:

* We may need to push the pace and go super small this series but will see how we look in Game 2.

* No more Gobert and Favors.

* We may need to double Harden and force CP0 to shoot the ball 20+ times if possible. He doesn't like to play that way and it may take them out of rhyhm.

* HARD FOULS!!!

Houston always get ticky tac fouls. We need to start swiping down really hard and putting them on their ***. Bring a little Phoenix to this series.

Between Gobert, Favs, Udoh, Crowder we have 20 fouls and they need to chop down hard on Harden, one is likely to jar a finger or 20 decent cracks across his arms, few to tge head may affect his shooting and willingness to drive. Houston is playing WAY to comfortable and with ZERO fear. We need to change that IMMEDIATELY.
 
Another positive note: I think we have a distinct advantage in games 2 and beyond in every series with Quin. I'll take his ability to adjust game to game over anyone else in the league.

I would agree. We're going to need to rotate capable defenders on Harden and Exum is going to be one our top options. He had a few TOs, of course, but he played great D and was effective getting to the rim.
