Western conference semi-finals: Game 1 — Jazz @ Rockets 4/29/18 1:30 pm MST

Next season, I want Royce shooting those threes when he gets the ball. Needs confidence because he’ll pass up the shot with someone ~5-7 feet away and drive a few feet in before passing or handing off.

I"m not too mad. Unless the Jazz can play over their heads and force the Rockets into not playing to their level, the Rockets are simply a better team. It pains me a bit to say that, but the truth is the truth.

I'm not going to put too much thought or worry into this game. I didn't even know that the game was today until this morning, because I figured there was no way this game would be scheduled before tomorrow night. That was unbelievably poor fortune for the Jazz. For playoff games, there should never be less than 48 hours from the end of a closeout game to the beginning of the next series. No shock at all that the score was 39-17 in short order. Quinn is better than Dantoni and that should get the Jazz at least a couple victories, the teams aren't as lopsided as this game. Rudy was more goober than Gobert and I don't expect that to repeat. Jazz will give themselves a chance in game two.

Just like with OKC, the focus should be trying to adjust and steal game 2. If not that, win at home and hope to wear them out (and get healthy) before game seven.

Tbh, the Jazz aren’t as outgunned as I expected them to be if Rubio is healthy. Just can’t come back with crappy game plans. Coaching is going to be critical. Quin needs to figure out how to counter what the Rockets want to do.

Even in this ******** video, his landing foot is so delayed that even Stevie Wonder can count the three steps Harden takes. If his two feet actually land at the same time he does his jump hop, that shot would be more difficult to make and much easier to contest.

Quin's strategy is going to need to figure out how to do it without Gobert. Gobert is a liability in this matchup. They just pick and roll to get the switch so that Gobert ends up guarding either Paul or Harden and he has no chance of stopping them. That and they have bigs who can hit threes and even run Gobert of the dribble.

We don't have any fast big men, so we probably have to play small to steal a win or two against this Rockets team.

Am I the only one who thought Exum had a decent game today? Maybe I missed some things, but overall I thought he played solid defense (one possession against Harden really stood out) and he had a few good drives and finishes.
He did few things alright and that defensive possession vs Harden was good. But he absolutely kills our half court offense with endless pounding of the ball. Plus other team just drops off him and dares him to shoot and he does not or if he does he bricks it as he has no confidence in his own mid range or 3 pt shot whatsoever. So its like playing 4 on 5 with him. He does better in run and gun type game where there is no difficult sets and all he needs to do is to drive to the rim or drive and kick. But that type of game is not our strength and we won't outrun Houston for 48 min.. So Neto is much better fit for what we are hoping to achieve vs Houston.

No, you play Gobert. Jazz can't go away from their biggest strength. You win or lose with Gobert. You arent benching (or playing him less minutes) your star player to experiment with lesser talent.

We'll be okay. We actually shot the ball pretty well today overall. And Crowder played well which is a great sign. We need him to play well in this series. Houston just happened to hit over 50% from 3. Not much can be done when a team shoots like that, especially a team like the Rockets. I expected that we would probably lose this one after the quick turnaround and playing without Rubio. Kind of a joke that the NBA scheduled us for a night cap on Friday and then a matinee on Sunday in two different series. It's basically a back to back. I think we have a good shot to steal game 2 on Wednesday though. The guys will watch film and make adjustments.

That's an idiotic way of thinking. You first try to see if you can win with Gobert. But if we are still getting blown out near the end of the 3rd quarter of the 2nd game, then you test out a new strategy before heading home for game 3.

No, then you play Gobert some more. Then you play Gobert some more. You try out Gobert shooting some 3's before you bench or significantly decrease Gobert's minutes.

We have somebody calling for the benching of Rudy Gobert, but people still call me a contrarian?

If we can’t find a way to beat a good team with Gobert then our team is completely broken.

Luckily it’s not the case. Gobert is 25 and the best player on the team. No clue why he gets such a bad rap here. It’d be like having Giannis but hating him because he can’t shoot. Can we let the guy learn and adjust a bit? Why do people assume that people can’t improve in defensive areas as well as offensive?

Gobert will figure it out, he already was towards the end of the game. And if he doesn’t then we had no chance anyway.
