What are Republicans doing to Unify the country?

^^^ didn't read your vitriol but I guarantee you that he didn't give a single current black Republican that Democrats haven't spread vile hate against... Proving me right.

That or he excused why it's ok for those who's cry about unity to hate African American Republicans.

Or both probably.

I'm just glad that OB is making it so others see my post. Thank you! We all know he cant give me a single current Republican African American Democrats haven't been racist against. You're on ignore for good OB but at least you are spreading my word. Lol you're too easy.

I'll leave it at that in fear of spamming. Keep up the good work OB. For real keep bumping my post to get my word out. You're very useful. Goodbye.

#unify And this in not trolling and I know Im spamming and I'll stop for a bit but this is pointing out the hypocrisy and downright vileness from those screaming the loudest to unify. Pretty messed up imo.
Also, **** you anti vaxxers. Kiss my ***. People suffer because your ****.

They are murderers by proxy. That's not the right way to say what I mean, but whatever. Anti-vaxxers are like the people in the stories where if they push the button someone somewhere dies, but they will get a reward, so they push the button. The only reward is confirmation from their idiotic anti-vax community, the sacrifice is potentially millions or even billions of human lives.

Yep. Especially since being pro life only means being against abortion. But lie about vaccines so your fweelings can be preserved, even if it means people getting sick and dying? Meh

Well stated

Is Jerrie Cobb lying?
Constantly, and about nearly everything. Jerrie Cobb was about making Jerrie Cobb famous and one of her most vocal detractors was Jackie Cochran who was in a position to know what Jerrie was being less than truthful about. Amy Shira Teitel recently authored a book about this piece of history and said that weeding out Jerrie Cobb's fabrications was the hardest part about writing the book. There is a ton of bad information about the Mercury 13 and nearly all of it involves stories originating from Jerrie Cobb.

Is this article wrong? I can find more. What's your source for saying the women could not pass the centrifuge test?
Documents from the era. The Salon article has some stuff that is true and some stuff that is half true but is presented in a way that doesn't paint an accurate picture. The only one who was tested in the centrifuge before the program was shut down was Jerrie Cobb and she didn't do much better than the 5 G's that Funk passed in the Salon article. For some context, the average male can handle 6 G's before blacking out. The Mercury Seven were subjected up to 16 G's in Project Mercury testing.
The point of all this testing was to prepare potential astronauts for “worse-than-worst case” scenarios. In some of these tests the men were subjected to 16 Gs which, “took every bit of strength and technique you could muster to retain consciousness” according to John Glenn

The women could handle up to 5g without the proper equipment, yet 6.5g was impossible?
The Redstone rockets were only early testing. It was the Atlas rockets they were worried about. Also, and most people don't know this, but some of the highest G-forces the astronauts were subjected to were on reentry.
Shepard experienced a maximum g-force of 6 during the booster acceleration phase of the mission and slightly less than 12 on re-entry.
...And there was no "proper equipment" for women to allow them to get even to the level of unassisted males. It didn't exist until the 1980's.

Technically, I suppose it was Congress, although NASA made the recommendations for Congress to follow.
It wasn't up to Congress or NASA. The whole programs was Jackie Cochran's personal deal and she cut it off when it became clear women couldn't get anywhere near the 16 G's they were demanding for the Mercury Seven astronauts. The sad part is that a lot of the feminist propaganda about the Mercury 13 paints Jackie Cochran as a villain when she is one of the most accomplished champions of women in aviation and without which none of the so-called Mercury 13 would have happened.

I thought this was a good insightful article. The GOP’s coalition of greedy billionaires, libertarian children, and white Christian nationalist nutcakes, was held together by the Cold War. Since then, they’ve lost the incentive to self moderate and work with the other side of the aisle. This began with Gingrich in the 1994 election and continues today with bobo and MTG. Their authoritarian streak and inability to compromise makes governing increasingly difficult. As they lose support from young people, women, minorities, and just plain normal people, they’re doubling down on the dumb. From banning books and history to abortion. Give it a read:

Fascism : a way of organizing a society in which a government ruled by a dictator controls the lives of the people and in which people are not allowed to disagree with the government

JOHN STOCKTON!!!! TAKE MY VACCINE OR I HATE YOU!!!! UNITY!!!!

Lol it's hilarious that Democrats start multiple threads with the sole purpose of trashing others for their political beliefs yet talk about unity. I don't see Republicans starting these hate filled threads here, pushing vitriol to others, just Democrats... Hell I can't even be against mutilation, castration and permanent sterilization of underage KIDS without the fascist regime attacking me.

I appreciate you bring all this information to the discussion, but I don't think you realize how you are undercutting your argument.

In reality, what is now referred to as the Mercury 13 was an effort by Jackie Cochran to become an astronaut.
Cochran's not one of the Mercury 13.

It wasn't NASA who shut down the program, it was Jackie Cochran.
Perhaps the initiative had several starts and stops, because it was still going during the 1962 hearings, when Cochran testified against it. According to Teitel's book, the program was stopped because the Navy refused access to testing facilities in Pensacola.

but not on the Atlas ICBMs used in Project Mercury, or the Titan II ICBMs used for Project Gemini.
Both of these systems were extensively redesigned for use in Mercury/Gemini.

The Redstone rockets were only early testing.
They took Alan Shepard on the first suborbital flight.

...And there was no "proper equipment" for women to allow them to get even to the level of unassisted males. It didn't exist until the 1980's.
Much like there was no military jet training for women. There could have been, but no decision was made to include them.

There was no point to the program if Congress and NASA were not going to allow female astronauts.

There was only one start and that was when Cochran got her husband to pay for starting it up. Cochran shut it down when it became clear women could not get close to the 16 G's that Project Mercury was demanding of the Mercury Seven. When Cochran pulled the plug, Jerrie Cobb tried to keep it going and spearheaded the effort to get Congress to pay for it but it wasn't "still going" after Cochran shut it down. As for the Navy refusing access to testing facilities in Pensacola, yes that was the end. The refusing of the access to the testing facilities took place after Jerrie Cobb failed in the centrifuge testing there at Pensacola. Her claims that she was at Pensacola in the centrifuge weren't untrue. Jerrie Cobb was there and documents survive from that time.

Cochran got the Navy to give them access to the Pensacola testing facilities. Then they sent Jerrie Cobb who was only able to get in the 5 to 6 G range before blacking out in the centrifuge. After Cobb's test results, Cochran informed the Navy they were stopping the program and the Navy revoked the access they had agreed to with Cochran which meant none of the other girls were allowed in. The statement "the program was stopped because the Navy refused access to testing facilities in Pensacola" can be seen as technically true but also not the whole story. It wasn't Congress, NASA, or the Navy that ended the program. It was Cochran who ended the program, and she did so for a good reason. Cochran was worried the centrifuge results, if they became public, would be used by those who wanted to set women back.

They took Alan Shepard on the first suborbital flight.
This is true. They also launched the first American satellite into orbit, and they served as the template for the Saturn I rocket. The problem for America was the Redstone were Nazi V2 rockets made by Nazis they acquired in Operation Paperclip, and America didn't really want those rockets leading the charge. America could have had the first satellite in orbit, beating Sputnik, but they instructed Wernher von Braun's group to not launch and instead gave the go-ahead to our domestically developed Vanguard rocket. It failed in a spectacular fireball with the Vanguard satellite that was supposed to be the first satellite ever. Then the Soviets got Sputnik in orbit, and then Americans gave von Braun the green light to use the Nazi rocket to get America's Explorer I satellite into orbit.

With that in mind, they didn't hold Wernher von Braun back for Project Mercury and his group was ready to go first as the Atlas was having some, um, explosion issues. There was even a scene in The Right Stuff that was a depiction of a real event where the astronauts were in attendance for an Atlas launch where the rocket exploded and Gus Grissom remarked "Are we really going to get on top of one of those things?"

The Redstone was ready first, and it was powerful enough to get a light satellite to orbit but it wasn't powerful enough to get the Mercury capsule to orbit and it wasn't powerful enough that NASA was worried about accelerating astronauts to death. With the Mercury capsule, the Redstone was a suborbital rocket, but that was what was needed for the early Mercury flights.

Much like there was no military jet training for women. There could have been, but no decision was made to include them.
This too is not untrue but the creation of the women-specific G-suits in the 1980's wasn't a trivial undertaking and even today with nearly half a century of advancement we still don't have G-suits for women that will get them to the 16 G's required of the Mercury Seven. The spacecraft we have now just aren't as nasty and our astronauts no longer need to endure what the Mercury Seven astronauts did.

Yep. Good find. As the GOP tent continues to shrink, the fascists, kooks, racists, and gun nuts will become an even louder vocal minority within the party. I hope we see a blowout in 2024. A devastating loss is what’s needed to allow this current version of the GOP to die and begin a new more stable and sane conservative Party to arise.

Most Americans oppose the GOP’s authoritarian agenda.

Let us know when you’re ready to admit the 2020 election lies were ******** and J6 was real, and your fault.

You were duped by a con man. Many of us sympathize with those that were duped and are ready to move on and forgive. You won’t, because you refuse to own your mistakes.

Take responsibility for your mistakes and work to repair the nation. Or we we can keep going down this hole where the country is destroyed.

Then we can talk about real solutions and ways progressives can own up to their over steps. But we can’t do that until you stop trying to throw us into civil war.

You have a responsibility to work and help clean up the damage you’ve done. Until then, we’ll continue to wait you out until you self destruct, where we win as we always have. See how fighting against modernity has worked out.

You have a choice. If you don’t own your **** and adapt you will be left behind.

We’re done waiting.

I thought this was a good read by a conservative. Democrats offer hope. They offer freedom. They may not have a perfect solution for everything. But they’re a terrific alternative to the party that wants to control what you can read, what kind of health care you can get, if you can vote, and if you should exist.

I think the Democrats running on "hope" would be despicable. They aren't going to deliver on that promise, it would just a an emotional plea that they have no intent to fulfill. They should run on "Common decency, mutual respect, sober judgement and inclusion." I'd vote for that. If they try to press hard into "hope" then I'll hold my nose while I cast my vote for Biden if his opponent is a MAGA-tard.

If Liz Cheney or Romney was the Republican nominee I'd have a hard decision to make.

Democrats have delivered on many of their promises before. Why wouldn’t they be able to do it again? Especially if they retake the House and build on the Senate (that’s a real problem)?

Worry not. Democrats aren't running on "hope". They are running on Trump. Their campaign will be single issue: Trump. Take a look at Biden's election announcement video. It has more Trump than the guy who is announcing his candidacy. As The Thriller put it "they’re a terrific alternative to..." That is what the Democrats are running on. This election campaign is going to be January 6th, and Trump rape allegations, and Trump criminal indictments, and Trump, and Trump, and Trump. The Democrats seem to believe that even a corpse could beat Trump in a general election and so that is the election to be featured in Democrat messaging.

They haven't delivered on their promises anymore than the Republicans have. Hope is a stupid thing for a corrupt political party to run on.

I don't know of you know this, the Democratic party doesn't give a **** about, they don't give a **** about me. They care about power, money and control... because they are one of two major political parties in the U.S..

The Republican party is bad right now BECAUSE they have become too ideological. The Democratic party is the one I prefer more right now because they are just trying to run a government while fleecing all of us. That's an arrangement I'm perfectly happy with. Give me a competent government that plays within the boundaries of a modern representative system and I'll vote for that all day long.

If a political party wants to pretend like they've got my back and we're on the same team they can go **** their self.
