What are the chances Utah Jazz (3rd) can swap picks with Minnesota (2nd)?

I realize the Jazz would have to include either future pick(s) preferably future 2nd rounder or cash considerations to move up to 2nd pick, but I have a feeling if the Jazz want Derrick Williams that they would need to come up with that best package to offer to move up to get him and might have the best chance because Minnesota would only have to move one spot down. My thinking is if the Timberwolves trade with another team that the other team is going to want Derrick Williams so the Jazz would need to come up with the best package to offer instead of standing pat and waiting to see if Williams falls to them, and what is that package that it would take to get the 2nd pick from the Timberwolves?

That's really our best case scenario for the draft. If we can somehow end up with Williams, it would be amazing. I am thinking if Wolves cannot get a good trade for #2 bringing a good player in, they might consider a swap with us. After all, the only reason they are considering trades is because they are not that excited about Williams due to having Beasley and Love as forwards of the future. So, if they cannot get anyone they like in other trades, they might just take one step down, still draft whoever they like, and get some value from us. I have a feeling though it will take at least a first rounder to move from 3 to 2 in this draft. I like Knight, but he is quite a bit of step down from Williams. Derrick is only a few months younger, but much more polished. Plus, if Williams can step into SF spot, all of the sudden we have our starting 5 loaded with major potential. If KOC can pull that one of, it would be amazing. I don't think we will know until the draft night though...

Minnesota will be doing some kind of trade, that is for sure, this team has been pretty active in draft day trades.

You just got to hope they fall in love with Enes Kanter at #3. Or maybe another players stock rises dramatically, and they want them at 3.

Or they could get a ludicrous offer from another team who loves D-Will. We can't control that.

Or they take D-Will and trade Beasley...There is a lot that could happen, we probably won't know until draft night.

Minnesota is looking to get some experienced players, so doing a trade to move into the second spot is possible for someone. You could have a offer in place in case Williams did not go number 1, but the trade would be off if he didn't.

You can not trade players for draft picks, so who would we want to take off the Minnesota roster is the question? Looking at their roster now. Love is the only player I would really want. Nope I don't think we are trading with them. Just hope Williams is there at 3 I guess.

I decided to dig a little deeper on how to get the second pick, if Williams was available. Don't shoot me until you finish reading. This a trade we might consider.

Ok before you shoot me here is the whole trade. We make this trade in exchange of our 3rd pick for the Minnesota 2nd pick this year. The final part of the trade is that we swap the Golden State pick next year and our first round pick next year for next years unprotected Minnesota pick. Millsap would have to play small forward and back-up power forward for them. They get Kanter with our 3rd pick and Millsap to shore up their front line next to Love, along with 2 first round picks next year. We get Williams with the second pick, their starting point guard as our back-up point guard in Luke Ridnour, a back up shooting guard in Wesley Johnson and Minnesota's unprotected first round pick in next years loaded draft.

Again we only do this if Williams is not drafted number one, which is possible. We only do this if we think Williams is a major piece of our rebuilding and we don't want Kanter, and if we think Minnesota's unprotected pick next year would be more valuable than the Golden State pick and our first round pick.

Another possible snag. I remember hearing that the Clippers own Minny's 1st round pick for next year. I might be wrong and someone correct me if I am. Also, we really don't need the 2nd overall pick that badly. Either Kanter or Williams will fall into our lap more than likely. If we prefer Knight then we should check out possible deals with the Raptors(since I think they would like Kanter more than Knight). Or maybe they prefer Knight. I am sure KOC will know when the time comes.

The only part of this I like is getting Minnesota's 2012 pick. Minny has said they don't want more young players - they want veterans. If you wanna move up from 3 to 2 offer 'em the veteran Raja (rumor was they wanted him for their little PG I forget his name).

If you're going to trade Millsap then the Jazz should keep the GS pick plus get Minny's pick + other picks + + + (dude, Millsap has value).

That's what I think. But I'm fine staying at 3 though. What with all the nice wings in the 2012 draft I would rather this year go with Kanter. Before all you Dwill2 lovers jump down my throat let me say I love Dwill2 as well. I'd be thrilled with either one, which is why I don't want to give up stuff I value just to move up. If Jazz do have to give up stuff of value then they should get some value back in the form of draft picks (from a team that has stated they don't want any more young players).

I'm fine staying at 3 but would LOVE to package 12 in a trade that would include an add'l pick for 2012.
12 for 12 ... my new slogan.

We um... got Al Jefferson from the wolves, right??

They had been looking to unload him for quite some time. I look at that as a mere dump not an actual trade. Just look at what we gave up. Somehow, I doubt they're looking to "dump" the #2 pick. And no folks, CJ Miles probably isn't going to entice them.

The main flaw in this plan is that the Wolves already own the Jazz' 2012 first round pick, so you can't give them that. I also think the trade is pretty lopsided in the Jazz' favor.

Jazz get:
#2 pick
Wesley Johnson (I realize he had a rough year but he was still the #4 pick a year ago)
Luke Ridnour
Minnesota's unprotected 2012 first (never happen without protection, but let's say #1-#6 range)

Minnesota gets:
#3 pick (Enes Kanter?)
Paul Millsap
2012 Utah Jazz first (Wolves already own, but just for comparison let's say #10-#20 range)
2012 Golden State first (let's say #8-#12 range)

Utah would be gaining value on the 2011 picks (#2 > #3) and on the 2012 picks (unprotected Minn pick > two late lottery picks or worse). They probably give back value on the Millsap for Johnson/Ridnour portion of the deal, but not enough to "pay" Minnesota for the pick exchanges IMO.

With the uncertainty of the CBA I doubt you'll see any players traded during the draft, other than the guys drafted that day & picks.

As good as it is to have GS's pick next year, it shouldn't be untouchable.
If it was a unprotected pick, and we could end up with Barnes, or Davis then I would say it is.

It's what top 7 protected? We have no chance to get one of the top 7 players anyways.
We could still get a solid player so the pick is still something of value, but untouchable to help us this year? I think not.

Williams is exactly who we should trade up for. We should do whatever it takes. As long as we keep Favors, Hayward & Jefferson in the process.

Include Miles, Millsap and maybe future draft picks. Its worth it. We will instantly become better and being able to start Hayward, Williams & Favors will be amazing for there development and for winning now and the future. Williams needs to get in better shape for sure and work on perimeter skills but I think he will be really good once the 1st year is over. KOC needs to be aggressive on getting Derrick Williams.

See I wouldn't use the the pick to move up one slot from 3 to 2 to get Dwill3.

I would use our 2012 GS pick to move the 12 up to 8 or 5(would have to include someone else very good too I realize) to grab Bismack, or Knight.

Kanter + Knight or Bismack is a home run.
