What Do You Think Donovan "A New Hope" Mitchell Is Going To Be?

*Credit to OneLove for idea to use the reference "A New Hope" in re Mitchell

Obviously after the Hayward departure, an epic meltdown, the likes of which Jazz nation had never seen nor took part in, ensued and unfurled. Jazz fans all over the world looked every where they could for a crutch to help them deal. Some turned to drugs and alcohol, Nicotine, body building/exercise, food/lots of ice cream, mormonism, obsession and threats on Hayward's family (Douch bags). Hell, I personally know someone who forsook the league and turned to invest his loyalty to the dying sport of baseball, renouncing on his way out the proverbial door the NBA and its culture forever.

No matter how we chose to cope, I think most Jazz fans saw Mitchell as the natural pain killer. It was summer league, and what ever summer league is, how ever you want to classify it, he killed it. He went beast mode for a fanbase that had had one of its two shining stars pretty much turn his back on them for Boston, the big market bombshell. He went HAM for a basketball community/franchise that, in probably one of its darkest moments ever, needed a hero, so in hindsight, figuring out the DM Koolaid is a lot like adding 2+2 or analyzing whether the coefficient of the quadratic is 1. I started drinking the Koolaid the moment I saw DM go at Tatum, perhaps especially because he played for Boston. I get it though. He pops constantly on the floor. He's shiny and bouncy and he's ours. Not to mention I think he'll prove to be 10 fold the leader Hayward is and have 10 fold the toughness Hayward has. Time will tell.

So my question today is what do you think Mitchell will be at his peak? What is his ceiling. I think at the very least he's not a bust if healthy but I'll include that in the poll so Colorado Jazz Fan can have the pick he'll want . What is your expectation for this kid. Whatever you choose please explain why.

I think he'll be an 20 ppg scorer and first or second All NBA defensive team player. Basically, I think he'll combine the best aspects of CJ McCollum offensively and Avery Bradley defensively. I think he'll be able to have games where he hits 5 or 6 3-ptrs and scores 35 pts.

If he played in the Eastern Conference, he could make an All Star team, like Demar DeRozan and Bradley Beal have, but in the West it's tough. Lillard can't seem to make the ASG in the west.

I'll start with fringe All Star, but he has the potential to move up a notch from there. I think he can be a top 30 - 35 player in the league.

I am sorry, but if he is CJ McCollum on offense and Avery Bradley on defense, and he does that for 10+ years then he is a Hall of Famer. It is very rare to be so good on both ends. It is not going to happen. He is going to have a weakness.

I voted that the OP sure had a lot of words.

He'll be all-star quality but won't be able to break through because of the bigger name guards.

Mitchell will average 20 pts and lead the league in steals (not this year...in 2018/19).

Oh.. nice thread!!!

A tough one, my heart says Clear Cut Allstar, my head says Fringe Allstar.

I'm feeling optimistic today so let's go with Clear Cut All star. I mean, look at what we were able to achieve in coaching & developing Hayward, Donovan has the same potential if not more.

he won't be able to break through a certain level cause he's 6 ft 3 ...

I hope people dont turn on Mitchell if he struggles in his first season w/ all the hype he is getting.

the more hood footage i watch back, and college/sl footage from mitchell i see, the more i believe mitchell will be the go-to guy sooner than later. if hood can become someone like rashard lewis was for the magic or detlef schrempf was for the sonics, it'd be gravy, but i dont think he'll reach that. mitchell has much more upside imo.
