What do you think happens with Clarkson?

What do you think happens with JC in free agency?

I haven't checked all the numbers, but I think if Clarkson does not opt in we pretty much have to spend the same amount on someone else to hit the salary floor. Ryan is not going to miss out on that juicy tax payment. That's a lot of golfing trips.

Anyone run the numbers on this?

If Clarkson opts in we will have around 14M to spend and if he doesn’t we will have around 28M to spend.

That rule doesn't start until next offseason and the Jazz seem to be already right around the salary floor or above it with the Collins acquisition (it's probably a significant driver as to why they made the move in the first place).

TIL, thanks. So it's not a concern this summer.

To reach the salary cap (roughly $135 million). The salary floor is 90% of the cap (roughly $123 million). Clarkson's salary seems to be about the gap between the floor and the cap, which means they are basically already at the floor.

My guess was the Collins gamble was all about the odds the OG JC bails. Doesn't mean he will, but it seems unlikely he wants to fight for minutes with Keyonte and Sexton on a team that is a fringe play in roster for a couple seasons

Tim MacMahon on the radio said he didnt think JC would opt in and said it would be a coin flip whether he would re-sign or not. I guess I could see valid arguments both way, JC did seem to show a willingness to distribute the ball under Hardy and could build on that. At the same I could see them wanting to move on from that era of the jazz, JC certainly was part of the problem defensively with those teams and that likely will not change.

Put it this way , if Clarkson never played for the Jazz and was an unrestricted FA , would Utah have any interest signing him ?

This feels like a mutual breakup
