What does Dante get in Free Agency?

I don't think the money is there. I think if we put a list together of the teams that have 10 million dollars plus and a list of the free agents available it would probably hint that all the money is going to be gone before teams even call Dante.

Except Dante has options! He doesn't really care whats in the best interest of the Jazz, which is why he will likely take the QO or a 2 year deal, this accomplishes 2 things:

-Gets his value up
-Lets some of the albatross contracts signed a couple years ago, from the salary cap boom, expire

So now I ask why would DL want him on a 2 year deal, when Rubio is going to be the starting PG next year, and Mitchell may grow into a capable PG soon.
Exum would expire, not having earned anywhere near the money he was paid, and the Jazz will have zero control over him in 2 short years. Doesn't sound like a gameplan DL would be interested in to me.

4/40 is basically the MLE. I could see someone doing that. Unless he goes nuts no one will go over that... and if he went nuts we’d just match.

I think he gets 3/21 or 4/35 if he wants to go more long term. Could see a two year 20M with second year as team option as a good compromise if he thinks he can get a lot more once fully healthy.

Almost nothing would shock me on his contract.

I think the MLE starts at $8.6 mill this year. With 4.5% raises, a 4 year MLE contract would therefore be 4/36.8. Substantially less than 4/40.

This.

I don’t see that as substantially different but whatevs.

I remember hearing Dante saying he feels he is due a big raise earlier this season. Does anyone else remember that? If so, Dennis will have George Hill greed part 2 on his hands and I expect he won't react differently. If anything he will feel more empowered than before.

And if Dante sits out waiting for a big contract offer and it doesn't come, I can EASILY see a team with space that missed out o n the big names (Lakers or suns or Orlando or nets) giving Dante a 1 year $13 million dollar contract when he can't get a 4 year $35 million contract elsewhere.

I would be shocked if either of these happen. There’s at least 3 GM’s that don’t know Dante Exum is employeed by an NBA team.

Think about all those dudes on the Grizzlies that we go “who?” to.....that’s Exum to 93% of NBA fans.

Just to be clear, are you saying Utah will not offer him a long term deal, or are you saying they will, but Exum will turn down the money to play for the QO?

You're going to be wrong in either case, but I wanted to clarify anyway.:D
I think the Jazz will offer him a long term contract(around MLE) and he will likely choose to play for the QO. Might be wrong of course.

Lets put the hypothetical like this - what's the offer you would make as the Jazz to Exum? What's the offer you would accept if you are Exum?

The other option is he takes offer similar to what Mirotic got 1+1 with the Jazz.

Kinda sounds like you're pulling fake news out of your *** tbh.

He may have said something before he got hurt, but from what I remember it had more to do with believing he could earn a good contract by playing better or something. Painting him to be George Hill Jr. sounds pretty dumb.

Dante IS due for a big raise. He's only making $5m/per. Now granted, that's a lot given games played, but still a rookie deal. What may hurt Dante's market value is so many teams drafted PG's last season or already have young PG's. Teams like Dallas, NY, Sacramento, Lakers don't need a PG. Philly might be a wild card. I hate to use the word "bust" but Fultz may be as bad a #1 pick as the likes of Bennett and Olowakandi.

There will always be money to pay players. There's just too much potential for some team NOT to take a chance on him. Worst case, a rebuilding team with a lot of cap room has a player that just puts them closer to the salary floor. Best case, they find a reasonably priced replacement for another PG, or a combo guard to fill out their rotation. I think Exum is going to get at least 4/$40m. And I'd consider that a very fair deal if Utah were to get him for that much.

If he has a decent end of the season, sign him to a 24/3 deal with a TO in 2020 and everybody's happy. The average salary is more than fair in this market, it's not that long that he feels he's going to be losing a lot of money over the length of the contract if he gets much better, and it's at least movable in case he sucks or can't stay healthy and the Jazz need to add it to a future trade deal.

Dante will not get much interest because teams will now be doubly sure (with Hood gone) that the Jazz intend to match all reasonable offers.

Is he a player an opposing team's GM would gamble on? 99% on here say no I reckon..

Offer if im the jazz? 4 years 38 million.
Accept if im X? 4 years 38 million

SMH. Jazzfanz are worse than Laker fans at times. This infatuation with "potential" of young players that have shown zero potential is plain silly. Exum cannot shoot. Exum is not a great assist guy. His PER is 5.7 and 8.5 in the 2 years he's played. He is injury prone. He sucks *** on defense. His DRtg was tied for dead last last season, with guess who? Fat Boris Diaw. Trey Burke had a better DRtg than Exum in his last season in Utah.

The kid needs to be let go if he wants much more than the vet minimum. "Potential" in almost every case is showcased in the NBA in the very first season. There are a few exceptions but almost everyone who becomes anyone in the NBA shows they have talent in their first season, or maybe the second. Exum hasn't shown jack ****. When will Jazzfanz wise up and realize this simple concept?

I'm a fan but if he wants to get a payday he has to win games.

He showed enough potential and chemistry with DM45 in summer league to be very excited. And if we cut ties with him I think he'd be picked up real quick.

I agree with this. I hope he has a good agent. Many guys have "bet on themselves" and lost big time over the last few years. Even a mirotic type deal could be fairly catastrophic if he flamed out and had his option declined. 38M for 4 years is more than fair and puts him over $50M in earnings and a FA at 26ish.

I wouldn't call ~3M substantially less, especially on NBA numbers

Anyway, it only takes one dumb GM using all his MLE to raise his value close to 40M. But yeah, from the Jazz perspective a fair value IMO is around 36-40M/4 years with either injury clauses or a team option.
