What's new

What ever happened to our Elite Defense?

We played terrific defense for three quarters last night, then ran out of gas. It was a back to back but they gave it all they had. It was a much better effort individually and collectively and if not for the b2b I think they would have finished and won the game. We are getting closer to who we want to be on the defensive end, just need to stay focused on that aspect, and I think Snyder will make sure they do. The down side is we had quite a few guys get banged up last night, and Favors is being affected by the knee soreness. I don't expect the Toronto game to be very nice to us as fans.

I'm not sure defense is still a thing with this freedom of movement bs.

I've watched a lot of games this year. To play great "Defense" this year you need 2 things from what I've seen..

1. Your opponent missing easy shots or taking bad shots
2. Your opponent turning the ball over

So basically, luck. Any semblance of actual defense is a foul.

This. Utah is getting screwed by the refereeing. Hard. Rubio in particular.

Offense needs to adjust by plowing into players like they are rushing a quarterback.

I would say Utah players individual skills and the team collective abilities are not enhanced by the new rules.

But i learned earlier this summer on jazzfanz that the new rules impact all teams and players exactly the same so it must be something else.

Players Like DM45 and Burks should be thriving with the new rule changes. seems some nights refs forget about the new rules though...

Denver is dead last in almost all shooting stats. Not really sure it's our defense. I fell asleep during the half tho.

I haven't looked at the numbers but it seems like Rudy isn't challenging guys as much at the rim. Either teams are taking him away from the rim or at times he just doesn't seem to come out hard enough.

I think if I was the Jazz I would send many videos to the league and the head of officiating showing the elbow to the chest, throat, and head plays that offensive players get away with and many times are called fouls on Rudy. I still don't think he gets enough of the benefit of the doubt as he should. He goes straight up... doesn't flop much... and still seems to get an *** whistle many nights.

Rudy's at the rim defense has slipped. Last I saw it he wasn't even in the top 20 among players with at least 50 at the rim defensive plays or however they say it.

Pace is too high for our half court defense to be effective. We struggle with transition defense.
Refs are assassinating us. Too many silly calls on Rudy. NBA don't like defense-first teams.

Finally we get to play an Eastern team, but it's 10-1 TOR.. and then BOS. Crazy schedule. We'll rack up wins in the second half again. if we survive until then obv

This can't just be due to pace or to a cosmetic change of the rules. What in the world happened to the team over the summer?
