What's new

What happened to Derrick Favors at the age of 25 and can he bounce back?

Favors weighed in at 265 lbs this past year but it's impossible to believe he was ever 270+

This makes complete sense. We should give you the benefit of the doubt that Favors was at least 270 pounds last season (you're douchebag insistence that he was that high implies you believe he was not just over but fairly far over--275-280ish--because it's oh so obvious to you) when in fact his playing weight has never been listed at 270 or higher. Right. But my logic is flawed.

Go kick rocks.

Will Favors have the same problems Nerlens Noel is having in getting a decent contract? Favors has a little more range, but Noel can guard 5 positions, and is younger.
Maybe he sticks with the Jazz for about 15m a year.

Nerlins Noel cannot "defend five positions." That is just silly.

Any freakin' idea what he's doing here?

I'm smarter than the average dude when it comes to exercises and can't for the life of me definitively figure out what he's doing. I feel like my eyes see his right leg strapped by the ankle with a contraption to that weight rack that's got 500+ pounds on it, and that he's using that one stabilized right leg to perhaps pull himself (with more weight--135 lbs--on him to make it more difficult) toward the rack, though I don't see any sort of wheels or anything on the bench on which he lies and I'm not sure how he'd pull himself toward the rack, or push back. This would help with his hammies, glutes and lower back, perhaps because he did have lower back issues though from my recollection, that was years ago and not an issue this most recent season.

Anyway, any idea what the **** he's doing?

He's doing some sort of variation on a hip thrust, so hamstrings/glutes/lower back

This is a great exercise for him to be doing. It's a single leg hip raises in a bridge position. It mainly targets the glutes which is what struggles to activate. His foot should just be in a platform and his back is on some bench or something to increase the range of motion for the exercise. You should do these fairly heavy. I'm not that strong and that's about the weight I would do. It's great he is doing them single leg since that is more useful to him since he is on one leg more often. Plus single leg forces you to use your core more and gluteus medius whish is one of the main muscles that can help prevent ACL injuries.

If he is doing these lifts, can we assume that his back issues are mostly solved?

No. The fact that he is doing the aforementioned exercise is not indication that his back issues are mostly solved. From my own personal experience, I can tell you that there is no clear correlation between doing some stabilizing stuff like that and running or jumping without pain. What Favors is trying to do, IMO, is strenghtening his core, lower back and buttocks area. The idea would be that stronger muscles would be able to absorb more of the impact than weaker ones, thus decreasing the risk of (further) injuries and generally reducing - although probably not eliminating - pain.

Hey @Wes Mantooth I'm ready for that apology.

In the press conference DL said Favors weighed 275 lbs with 8% body fat two seasons ago. Last season he was 250.

So just like I said.
