What is going on with Collier?

In his 5 games he scored 2 points! Not on average - in total. He completely stopped shooting and driving, he also does not get any free throws. Even Collier's playmaking has been rather mediocre. He is trying on defense though.

What is the point of playing Collier in the NBA if he is going to play like that? It does nothing for his development and does not help the team either. He is playing like Cody: except, at least Cody was not shy about shooting (and missing) his 3-pointers. Collier was much more impressive in his first NBA games.

Just speculation, but maybe they are wanting him to slow his game down a notch for him to get a feel for how to play in control, valuing possessions, and then incrementally building back up to his faster type of play. While exciting, his initial showings were far too erratic to have meaningful impact.

He's a scorer who cant score at the NBA level.

Exactly.

This is practically an epidemic among the current Jazz youngins (except Kessler). They're college basketball players masquerading as NBA pros. The skills are not translating.

We have to call it like it is. Ainge's drafting has been terrible. Walker is literally the only one who has performed exactly as advertised.

He can't jump so he can't score in the paint or get to the line and that was his entire game in high school or college.

He needs to shoot like 10 threes a game at 40% accuracy to make it in the NBA.

Too early to call anything.

No he just has to learn how to score in the paint. You dont have to be a leaper to score as a PG.

I mean, it's really really hard to score in the paint as a guy with a short standing reach if you can't jump.
Yet there are a ton of examples of players who do it without shooting 40% on 10 3's per game. If he did that, he's a star, not just a player.

It is too early to tell but it is not looking good. And for the record, Ainge didnt draft Kessler.

Collier is the 29th overall pick as a freshman. Late round freshman typically arent NBA ready. It's a project.

Collier is getting frozen out by the vets. Last few games he was at times completely alone on the wing and Sexton and Clarkson both opted not to pass to him.

If he isnt bringing the ball up, he aint touching it
Same thing happens with Cody. He gets completely frozen out by the veterans even Lauri. Honestly can't say that I blame them. These kids are not ready for NBA minutes while JC, Collins, Sexton, Lauri, Kessler are trying to win and more importantly earn their next contracts. Lauri is the only one of those guys with a long term contract.

It's just a really bad combo and the blame doesn't go to anyone except the front office. The focus was supposedly on player development and positioning for the draft. This doesn't align at all with having so many "vets" on the team who obviously have different priorities.

Some of yall are so delusional. Developing young guys doesnt mean letting them go out there and lose by 30+ every night.

I think it is more than that Collier is strong, stiff, earthbound and and has poor coordination. He is built like a Rottweiler. Collier simply does not have the ability to weave around the players in the paint. That really limits him in what he can do.

I think that Collier has a higher chance to end up being a complete bust than either Flip or Cody. He simply does not seem to have physical tools to play his position on the NBA level.

I might be getting worried about his and Cody's shooting mechanics. Isaih shot a blistering 9% from three in Vegas. Also the legendary Michael Devoe, Isiah Wong, and Max Admas all outscored and outshot him in Vegas. He and young master Cody better get with the Jazz shooting coaches between now and training camp.
