What's new

What should we do in the off season?

Or, if you are Chicago, you can keep Rose for two years, bring in Burke for PG depth, get a pick for depth, slide McDermott into Snell's roll. That leaves you some money to sign the 12th pick and use some exceptions, then sign Butler to a max deal. They will pay tax for one year, be under the next year, then Rose comes off the books and they have 20 million to throw at someone.

Yeah, I'm starting to think we aren't going to be using the pick this year unless we move up in the lottery.

For free agents who is everyone thinking we should take a run at?

Backup vs starter is really just what kind of money I'd be willing to pay them and if they'd take the role. Like I'd love Knight in Burke's role, but that's probably not going to happen and I don't want us to offer him close to max money to start for us.

Starting PG: nobody
Backup PG: Beverly, Lin
Starting SG: Butler (restricted), Middleton (restricted)
Backup SG: Danny Green
Starting SF: Leonard (restricted)
Backup SF: nobody
Starting PF: nobody
Backup PF: Ed Davis, Thomas Robinson
Starting C: nobody
Backup C: Wright

These are the guys I feel are at least worth inquiring after. I could see us having a shot at any of the 'backups' and maybe Middleton as well.

I'm more concerned about what we at Jazzfanz should do in the offseason

Danny Green or DeMarre Carroll are the only options I see. Lin/Beverly would only be considerations if the Jazz were to make a trade that included Burke to get a wing or stretch-4.

Definitely need another big (or two), but I think that comes internally by either bringing Tomic or Pleiss over and giving Motum a good look.

As for the draft, I think BPA will likely be a wing. And that's ok. I think the Jazz are high on Hood, but you never know what will happen with Hayward in two years. Always need to have players in the pipeline to step up or be part of trades.

Same story as last season before the draft when we were saying that the Jazz need Jabari Parker or Wiggins.

Jazz need a consistent scorer....I don't feel secure when Burke or Hayward have the ball in their hand down the stretch.

How much money do people think would be reasonable to throw at Middleton? Bleacher report (not the most reliable I know) has an article up right now with 7-8 million a year as expected numbers and that seems awful low to me. I feel like he'd easily be worth around 10-12 million a year. Though I think we'd have to find something to do with Burks if we got him (10 mil a year for a backup in our situation is a little steep), maybe use Burks/Burke to move up in the draft and grab a guy like WCS? (I don't yet believe Tomic is actually coming over)

Give us a:

Exum/Neto
Middleton/Ingles
Hayward/Hood
Favors/Booker
Gobert/WCS

And probably still have some resources if we wanted to try to grab another wing prospect in the draft to put in Ingles spot.

We are one year away from the biggest cap jump in league history. I believe he's likely to get a max deal, which will be matched without question. Don't see him as a realistic option.

That's kind of what I was thinking too, but they said those were gm's throwing out those 7-8 million numbers. Seemed weird to me.

Make a big offer to get Middleton, renounce the team option for Booker and convince Tomic to come in Nba.

I'm not in favour of bringing back Matthews or DeMarre Carroll...the only player I wish to see in Jazz uniform again is Paul Millsap.
