Back in the day..... when the Czars held sway over Russia and their elites "owned" the serfs with actual deeds, and such, Russia experienced a fashionable notion popular among its elites of "Enlightenment". They sent their elite kids to France or other Western European centers of "progress", and adopted a of "Western" values. The Czar and his nobles were actually related to the British nobility...... and most of the other European royalty.
But they sinned against their high connections by supporting the American Revolution and the Union during the Civil War, even sending warships to help prevent the British from gaining political and territorial hegemony in the Western Hemisphere.
All that changed, however, when the Bolsheviks destroyed the Czar regime, with Western political support. yah yah, most of you won't find that credible, it's "conspiracy theory" and not what you'll find in print in college textbooks or taught by Oxford-dominated intellectual fashion today. But it's very simple. The British merchant marine thrives on sea-based trade routes, and the one big threat to all that is Eurasian overland trade. Helping the Bolsheviks put "The Silk Road" trade route off the map. Having a world fundamentally divided enriches the merchants of London. You know, railroads from China to Europe, with oil pipelines and such to boot.
Putin is a different sort of Russian, in that he realizes Russia has been pawned by the Brits. The Chinese realize as much today, as well. The United States, geopolitically, needs to align with Russia and China regardless of so-called differences ideologically. The main problem with that is the fascist/cartelist structure of our---USA, Russian, and Chinese---- commerce, which is little different from the Brits. Putin is a bigtime monopoly star, much bigger than Trump can ever be. Putin is something of a "Clinton" type operator, deriving his power from control of government, and has a very tight control system. Long way off from having a real "free country" idea. But systems like that are in fact fragile, as fragile as one man's health and one man's circle of friends. If it falls apart, the next man standing will have to do business pretty much the same way, but influence will be up for grabs.
But the anglophile world is in danger at this time, with real revolutionary developments across the globe going on which will fundamentally change "the way things are". But I'm believing the only folks capable of forming a new "status quo" will still be the Brits..... In some fundamental way, the Anglo-Americans will have to find a new formula for influencing others. Nobody else has the basic ingredients of civilization worked out nearly as well..... nobody else will be able to project control. But that new order will need to be a world with a Silk Road across the landmass of Eurasia.
Trump actually represents a huge opportunity for us. I still think our "elites" will have to adopt this mongrel and begin to claim he's their pet. And he will be.

So I take it you, like oh 70% of Utah pioneer stock, are proud of your British roots. For some that would possibly include Scots, Welchmen, even Irish, though mostly the Irish would probably harbor the most profound anti-English prejudices.
You like to reduce a fairly complex set of ideas to something you can knock off in one sentence. One thing I'd ask you to keep in mind is that I am 100% British, legend has it I'm descended from King George III, and some witches who were burned or drowned in New England so far as that goes, and from one of three brothers who fled to America after personally discharging King Charles II.

is an evocative sort for some in the genre of independent patriots (for Scotland, at least). One of my ancestral lines, a nobleman loyal to and well-rewarded by Edward I was the principal royalist who dispatched William Wallace, so I'm sure you'll stir up some still-contentious ghosts if you call me a rebel of that class. Still, a lot of my American rebel ancestors would defend the notion, with spiritual arms I'm sure.

babe, I just have a hard time imagining there is this evil core of Brits sitting in some den somewhere executing the plan hatched by their now ancient ancestors to subjugate the world for the sake of subjugating the the world. You would really get along with my dad. He's a highly educated conspiracy theorist, like yourself. A while ago, we were discussing politics, and he was complaining about the US actions worldwide. I said "You seem to always think everything is the US's fault". And he responds "No, that's wrong. I think everything is Britain's fault. Name me one conflict in the past few centuries that the English had nothing to do with!".
I'm not gonna lie, it was difficult finding such conflicts off the top of my head.

Actually after the last election I was hoping they'd take us back.
They fought two wars to keep us, started a third to break us up so they could pick up a few pieces, but settled for becoming our intellectual leaders and making us into a surrogate imperialist nation, and then got us to fight two world wars for them, and a hundred bowery wars under UN guidance..... The question is whether we can be independent.
I have a book by a historian who researched pretty well the subject, on the source of funding for both the abolition movement and secession movement in the 1850s, who maintained that both sides were funded by British financial banks through associated Boston banking families. When Lincoln was asked by New York bankers to run for Pres, I believe they picked him because of his very strong position against slavery, which those interests knew would break up the Union. In his early days in office, the attempt was made to persuade him to just let the secession states go, like in good riddance, but Lincoln didn't buy it. He knew in the Union was broken up, the pieces would not be strong enough to remain independent. He surprised his early backers, and somehow managed to keep people behind him, though "copperheads", Northerners who wanted to just quit the war gained significant numbers. Among other things, Lincoln resorted to muzzling our "free press" and issuing "green back currency" which would have just become worthless if the war hadn't ended soon enough to avert it.
All in all, I consider Lincoln a hero, and extraordinary leader who outsmarted "the interests" and served the people. I believe he was assassinated for that fact.
