What type of player do we put next to Mitchell?

Donovan Mitchell has made most of us believers that he is the face of the franchise for the better part of the next decade. The question is, what type of player do we put alongside him? Does Donovan play the point guard position? Combo guard position?

I am not suggesting we can get these players, but just as examples of they TYPE of players they are...

Do we need a pure shooter like Klay Thompson, Devon Booker, CJ McCollum, Ray Allen type next to him?
Do we need a playmaking point guard who can also attack the rim and shoot like a Mike Conley, Lonzo Ball type next to him?
Do we give DM the point guard spot and go with a prototypical athletic shooting guard like Dwayne Wade, Rodney Hood (just give him the two spot), Andrew Wiggins type?

Essentially, if you were building the franchise back court, what TYPE of player would you be looking to put alongside Donovan Mitchell?

Discuss.

I wouldn’t look at backcourt. I’d want a 2008-2010 Troy Murphy and fill in the rest with tough guys and shooters. Crowder comes to mind.

Honestly... healthy Rodney Hood is pretty close to ideal. Can handle and run PnR and good spot up shooter. Decent defender.

Ingles is good too... ball mover, shooter, and defender. Gobert is great obvi. It's the 4 spot. I think we want a floor spacing four, but ideally a floor spacing/playmaking four.

So Thabo/Jerebko work, but a Draymond type is much better. Think James Johnson (without the crazy). Honestly if Thabo was younger he'd be the guy I'd want.

An athletic Joe Ingles. You want someone that can shoot, help carry the assist load and get in opposing teams heads. If Joe was just able to take it to the rim...

Thabo is another great piece to have.

Who cares what type of player, that doesn't matter too much. Just get someone really really good. That's all that matters in this league.

We already have Gobert. Most of the rest of the team is good, so that helps too. Depth.

Ingles is fine.

Honestly, I feel like we need a young Jason Terry next to Mitchell. Someone who can run PG but can also spot up really well. A team player who just wants to win.

Too bad there’s only one.
One what? One player that can play next to him? That isnt true. One that is healthy? Yes, we need Hood back ASAP. Hopefully we get to see some Exum this year to help us plan going forward better.

Exum missing this year could perhaps be a blessing in disguise. I wonder what kind of deal he’d be looking for. We could take the Hayward approach with him. I’m not certain I see too many teams jumping to offer him a big deal.

So...

...

Someone like Donovan Mitchell?

Honestly you know what would be good to put alongside two Donovan Mitchells... another Donovan Mitchell and a bigger Donovan Mitchell to play the 4. Would be nice to have a Donovan Mitchell off the bench to help out when Donovan needs a break.

I think we take a deal to him. I think it is likely a 2 year deal with a third year mutual option. Around 7ish a year is my guess.

If we really think he's a star I'd offer a 4/40 and just see if we end up getting huge value. I wonder if someone comes with a big one/two year deal if they miss on their initial targets.

How about we surround him with players that can hit the 3.

Hood 40%
Ingles 46%
Burks 40%
Sefolosha 42%
Jerebko 46%
Neto 46%

It's amazing what a scheme that creates open looks can do for team shooting percentages.

I think I'd really like Brogdon with DM... I doubt Milwaukee would do it, but his name gets brought up in the DeAndre Jordan trade... I mean if I was Mil I would want Favs instead of Jordan. He will be cheaper next year and doesn't have to come off the floor in crunch time.
