I say he comes back and realizes that his **** does, in fact, stink like everyone else's and realizes that this whole time the only real "muscle" he's needed to use was the big one in his head. He then decides to take the time with the coaches to actually watch film and learn how to play his position on this team...

Magically, he actually starts getting better stats than he's ever had and his team starts winning more, all because he decided to learn how to play within this system and as a teammate (Wow! Go figure?!). Jazz fanz rejoices while this team blows away all preconceived expectations and we get into the playoffs on year 1 of our rebuild project....

Hahaha jk, he won't do any of that–instead he'll continue to wonder why he gets 18 and 10 a night and his teams can't win squat....

Is the idea behind this thread that we won, therefore the Favors/Sap combo was good?

The only true answer is: When Al comes back, we'll be better.

I was hoping he was just being held out for trade purposes.

He'll probably start with Millsap and Favors will come off the bench. I think that's the most likely scenario. Players don't lose their spot due to injury.

that's like saying "When Okur comes back, we'll be better"; not necessarily true.

More likely than Slowkur, but not necessarily. Does provide another OK body--just not a consistently game-changing one, unless his defense stops canceling out his offense.

But if he decides to box out decisively, start passing judiciously, and put forth smart effort on defense, then we'll clearly be better.

This also can be facilitated by Corbin attempting to enforce quality play, as he did with Harris vs. Philly; given that Favors, Millsap, and Kanter are viable alternatives to AJ in most cases, Corbin has the backup (literally) to bench Jefferson (or any other big) when he is dogging it.

But they should lose their spot based on performance.

Favors has improved; so has Kanter. Time to step up, Big Al, or you might lose your starting spot anyway, injury or not.

Jefferson + Millsap is too short against some lineups--especially starters. Jefferson + Favors is preferable on most nights. Millsap + Favors is OK, but the Paperboy had a tough time x3 or 4 times defending Brand last night--much less someone who has a legit PF height.

Ty should have yanked Big Slow's butt in the Denver game. I was watching highlights and there was one play that clearly showed a benchable offense. Big Slow had the ball out high and tried to pass it back to the pg above the key. Nene got his hands on it and stole it. Then Nene raced to the other end for a dunk. Big Slow was even with him at the start of the play but only jogged behind Nene. With a real effort he could have likely had a chance to at least foul if not block. Ty should have called a TO and sent Al to the bench.

That'll be nice, kid goes 20/10, has two huge defensive stops at the end of the bench and gets rewarded with a trip to the bench.

Keeping all these guys happy with "reasonable" PT is gonna be just as big a challenge for Coach Ty as actually winning games... If any starter is out for*an extended period and we start winning w/o them, then what? The guys should understand by now NO ONE has a lock on a starting position; winning is way more important!
