What's new

What will next year's rotation look like to start the year?

You forgot Burks, Trey will definitely be traded, Booker it's hard to say because he brings a lot as a bench player, Withey is no D-L player. Take a look at his stats when Gobert was out. The guy is definitely an NBA caliber player. Johnson, well we'll have to see, he has made a lot of improvement this year.

I did. I remembered before posting it and I was about to put him in but some things happened at work and I forgot again. I have no idea why I forced to post it on a rush. Sorry my favorite player Alec. You are out of the rotation.

My dream scenario is giving 2+1 year max to Batum to be our super-sub(Iguodala style) then drafting Skal in the draft and feeding him some sandwiches and sending him to the weight room.

So this would be my rotation:

Exum/Mack/Neto
Hood/Burks/Batum/Johnson
Hayward/Batum/Ingles
Favors/Lyles/Skal
Gobert/Favors/Skal/Withey

Skal being long term project. I trust our staff to coach him up and develop him.

Exum and Mack will get 20+ mins/night to start the season. Neto will get the balance. I think the Jazz are going to bring Exum along slowly, work him into shape and let Mack/Neto take pressure off him.

Hood gets the start at the 2, but Burks is an early substitution. I don't see Mack taking minutes at the 2.

Hayward starts at the 3, and the Jazz keep Ingles around, but Hood gets regular minutes at the 3 next to Burks at the 2.

Favors gets the start at the 4, with Lyles continuing to develop as the 3rd big. Favors gets significant minutes at the 5 behind Gobert and plays next to Lyles.

Gobert starts at the 5; Favors gets most of the back-up minutes, and someone like Withey gets left-over minutes as a 4th or 5th big.

Jazz need to pick up a 4th big who can play minutes at the 4 and possibly spot minutes at the 3. This guy replaces Booker and possibly Chris Johnson.

Even though I have gone with the worst case scenario with Pleiss, there is experience to false my thoughts. Ty sent Rudy to D-L for dumb reasons and he came back as the White Gandalf. So I want to see what Pleiss can become before anything can be said about him.

I have hope for Pleiss as a serviceable backup. I think he is there already offensively. Can he add some strength and hold down the fort defensively?

Green: (if not removed): ....
Sap: (if not traded or something else):
Trey (if not traded):
Booker (if not traded):
Withey: (might be waived or D-L by then)
Pleiss: (might be D-L by then)
Johnson: Will probably be traded but anyways ...

League's first waive-and-trade. Ingenious. I wonder what could we get for a combo of Glen Rice and Elden Campbell?

This.
Nailed it

Still say it would be interesting to see Neto Mack and Burks in the game at the same time in the second unit. Shooting with Neto and Lyles while Burks and Mack are in attack mode. Think that second unit could put up some points on other second units.

This might be a unit u use if starters get off to a sluggish start.

Exum-Mack-Neto
Hood-Bazemore
Hayward-Luwawu-Ingles
Favors-Lyles
Gobert-Withey-Hayes

We roll with these 13 guys to start the year, thus giving us more roster flexibility. We get waaaaay more athletic on the perimeter with the additions of Bazemore, Luwawu, and of course, Exum. This should help us a ton on both ends of the court. No more excuses as to why we run so slow of a offense and suck in transition. There's also no reason we shouldn't have athletic depth to defend virtually any wing in the league. In the 2nd round, if we think he can play some 5, Nigel Hayes is the move--even if we have to trade a couple 2nds to move up. He's more of a 4 in today's NBA but I think he can play some 5 if he fills out like I think he might. Dude has legit skills and length (7'3.5" wingspan, 8'10" standing reach--both longer than Draymond's) and yet some girth as well to defend on the low block. We already have the legit big man in Withey behind him. But for today's NBA, when teams go small, we've added Hayes. He can also play the 3 or the 4, depending on the opponent, so he offers great roster flexibility due to injury as well.

Edit: The only thing we may want to go after rather than Hayes is someone defensively who is a legit-sized bouncy 5 who can get off the ground quickly ala Ezeli.

Personally I think we sign Dudley and pick Valentine(Luwawu already off the board);

1. Exum 24 Mack 14 Burks 10 Neto
2. Hood 30 Burks 18 Valentine
3. Hayward 34 Dudley 14 Valentine
4. Favors 20 Lyles 16 Dudley 12
5. Gobert 32 Favors 12 Withey 4

Ingles and pleiss as roster spots 13/14.
Johnson or 2nd rounder for 15th spot

Dudley would be a great addition. Good team defender, knock down 3 point shooting, veteran presence. He has played alot of PF this season. We also have the ability to over pay on a 1-2 year deal to steal him away from other teams.
