What's new

What you sippin on?

What's Edmonton like? Visitable? I've heard good things about Vancouver.

Low standard of living. Used to be very easy for an immigrant family to move to, haul ***, and get somewhat established (my family moved here in '95 from Kosovo-- we were living in Germany at the time). Still is, relative to other cities, but the blue-collar jobs are slowly drying up as the oil economy continues to suffer (the infamous oil sands are a few hours north of the city). Most ppl hate it, mostly because of the weather (it's about 15 below Celsius outside right now, which is not that bad for February).

I personally like it. It's home to me. The city is fun in the summer time. It's not that dangerous, a few neighbourhoods notwithstanding. It gave my family a future when we had nothing, and for that it will always hold a special place in my heart. We really, really 'American Dream'-ed it. Came to the country with a couple dollars, and my older brother is making more money in his first year of work than my dad is after working >20 years with the same company, and having gotten several raises & job promotions.

Vancouver is gorgeous, but it reminds me of the states. Very socially stratified. Ridiculous cost of living unless you are rich. Also, they have a hostile multicultural community-- in that racism is pretty alive there (from what I hear anecdotally). Asians only deal with Asian clients, whites with whites.

Off-Roading lol city slickuhz

Had several swigs of Barbarossa I think at my last poker game. I hate rum drunk and don't know if that's a good one or not but that stuff was tasty. I could throw that in a tumbler and sip it all night.

You should come down and hang out a couple days. Serious.

Dalamon why don't y'all move to Vernal, Utah since your pa is in the oil industry? (honestly don't it's a complete **** hole)

I was thinking earlier today of asking if I could come shadow you at work for a couple days sometime. I'd love to see what it takes to set a process into motion.

I think a JF road trip or camp out would be bad ***. We flirted with a Yuba thing last spring but BigB and I were prego. I would borrow a minivan and drive 8 down to Cedar City to meet Stoked or half way to Reno to meet Log for a Poker game. It's really not that far either way. I like GF's idea of overrunning a Wendover poker tourney too.

I have a detached casita that is not used. Let's plan something. And I would love to include you in business stuff. Book it.

Jazzfanz overrunning a Wendover poker tournament? This is my idea? franklin, you are too kind.

If there's a JF poker crew overrun on a Wendover tournament I'm 1 bazillion times in on that ****. I will call in sick and borrow money if I have to.

This weeks entry in honor of Dalamon...because he's in Canada and that's where Labatt Blue is imported from, daily.

Labatt Blue. This is decent beer. I'm quickly figuring out why I'm not a big fan of light lagers. They are all pretty much the same. I honestly haven't invested the clicks to figure out what the abv% is on this one. This is a beer very much along the lines of Busch Ice. If you drink it expecting to be disgusted you'll more than likely be pleasantly surprised. If you drink it expecting to be pleasantly surprised you're in for disappointment.

Session Lager - This is a little more crisp than the other light lagers I've had recently. I say that based on my first taste of a very cold beer. I had another taste after it had warmed a bit and the body filled out adn the maltiness came through a little more, so the early distinguishing factor kind of went away as the temperature rose.

Session lager came in (I hope I'm doing the math right, if not I'll fix it in the morning) at 0.43oz of pure ethanol per dollar spent. Putting it dead last.

Icehouse Edge - This beer left me asking how they hid 8%abv in such a light beer. It was just like Icehouse or any of the rest, but it was an 8% light lager. At $2.49 for a 24oz can I think this one is going to be hard to beat.

0.77oz of pure ethanol per dollar spent.

Drank the worst beer I've ever had. Choked it down. Brother Thelonious from North Coast Brewing. Seriously terrible ****.

Going to Disneyland this weekend, I'll be driving quite a ways out of the way to get my hands on some Pliny the Elder. Quite excited.

Keep in mind you don't have to actually go to Russian River to get PtE. There are some really good beer stores in CA that will have it. My sister in law got it from one somewhere around San Diego.
