What's The Damn Tiebreak Scenario?

I watched the Houston/Mavs game last night and the announcers and graphics went on and on about how tight the Rockets/Mavs/Jazz race for the final two playoff spots is. But they never told us who gets what if there is a tie!

I go online...no definitive answer. I am a Knick fan in New York and I can easily tell you our playoff scenario, but our newspapers aren't filled with Rockets/Mavs/Jazz tie-breaker scenarios. What is it?

Would the Jazz top the Mavs or Houston even if they finish with a similar record? Do the Jazz have to finish with a better record than either of those teams to get in? What's the deal?

With the Knicks fighting for a playoff spot every single year since the birth of Christ, I would expect all Knicks fans to be an expert on this subject...

Wow. What I suspected is right. Utah Jazz fans really don't know about the sport.

No one here knows what the tiebreak scenario is. You honestly don't follow the sport, do you? So you go to Jazz games just to watch the baby races at halftime. Sad. I can honestly declare that I am more of a Utah Jazz fan than you folks. What a pathetic fan base.

Thanks for no help. I guess I'll have to watch "The Starters" on NBA network to find the tiebreak answer. Imagine that, some Australian guy on that show knows more about the Jazz tiebreak situation than you people from Utah.

The Knicks playoff scenario is easy to calculate and has been since several weeks ago: 0% chance of making the playoffs.

Although our H2H record is tied, I'm Pretty sure that the fine print of division records and such dictates that Houston has the tie breaker over us. We soon have a game against Dallas, If we beat Dallas coming up we will have it on them, if they beat us they will have it on us.

There are MANY discussions about tiebreaker scenarios on this site. What you have to do is read and participate in threads other than the ones you started.

I would answer you but I don't provide info for trolls. Do your own research if you really care.

Good idea. You should leave this forum and never come back. Please make sure that you don't read any of the threads that already answered this same question on your way out.

Thanks for showing us all that you don't even know the answer.

Four games left for the Jazz and this fool Gobzilla has no idea how they stand in regards to the playoffs. Incredible.
But I bet he can tell us who won the baby race. The only reason Gobzilla follows the NBA.

It's a shame, I wanted Rockets to be the odd one out, with Jazz at 8, Mavs at 7 and Grizzlies at 6, but it looks like Rockets are getting in for sure. I like Utah so I'm pulling for you guys, it heavily relies on Dallas now. Grizzlies won't drop out.

Bottom line is Utah HAS a chance of making the playoffs; Knicks don't. As for tiebreakers, Utah owns the tiebreaker over Memphis. Houston owns the TB over Utah. Dallas/Utah will be determined on 4/11. There are too many variables to walk through 3, 4 or even 5 team ties.

And yes, it's unlikely but still possible for 5 teams to tie for the last four playoff spots. Pretty confident, though, that Portland will get the 5th seed. But a very real chance of 4 teams ending up at 42-40.

That's the best you got? Why do you even waste your time trying to make fun of people? Get a life.

If Utah is tied with Houston, then Houston likely wins the tie-break if they still have a better conference record.
If the Jazz tie with Dallas, the winner of the next Utah/Dallas game would win that tie-break due to head-to-head record.
If Utah ties with Memphis, Utah wins the tie-break due to head-to-head record.

If 3 or all 4 teams are tied, it gets really messy.
