What's the Deal With Our DNP Guys?

It looks like Jeremy Evans, Tour Murry and Jordan Hamilton have not played a second yet and I'm not sure if Murry and Hamilton have even dressed. Hamilton on paper looked like a guy that could help. Are the Jazz just waiting for the DLeague season to open and send them down or are they trade bait or waiver wire bait?

Up to four players can be sent down under the new rules. I would think Murry and Hamilton are definitely candidates. I don't see anyone else being assigned to the D-League unless they can convince Ian Clark to be the starting PG for Idaho so he can get more experience in that role.

I feel sorry for Jeremy. He's worked hard to improve every season and found himself a nice niche last year as an energy player off the bench, averaging 18 mins, 6 pts and 5 rebounds. Obviously, his game just doesn't fit Quin's system. I hope the Jazz find him a new home. He's a good guy and deserves to go to a team that can utilize his skills.

I don't think it's really a question of fit, it's more that Booker and Novak (who doesn't even see the floor much either) bring more to the team.

Right. Novak and Booker can both shoot 3's; Evans barely has a mid-range shot. You can't have Jeremy sit on the perimeter waiting for a kick-out.
Not being critical of Evans...I love the guy. He has WAY overachieved on the court and is everything and more off it. Last year he still got minutes even with Marvin starting at PF. I think this year it's more a case of Gobert stepping up and getting the backup mins at the 5. So Enes and Booker then take up the mins at the 4, leaving none for Evans and hardly any for Novak. Jeremy is caught in a numbers game and likely will only see action if a couple of guys get hurt. I'm more surprised we're not seeing the 3-pt shooting of Novak. This is clearly a case of Quin wanting to develop the younger players instead of going for more floor spacing.

I like Evan as the 3 instead of the 4 and think his length and leaping could make up for his lack of foot speed. Plus, though same reasons would give him an advantage against some 3s on the offensive end. It appears Ingles is getting those back-up minutes at the 3 though.

I actually think Evans would do fine from the mid-range. He isn't terrible and you know they would be open shots. But yeah, Booker and Novak are better.

Speaking of Novak, he's the guy I'm confused about. I thought he would be a major bench contributor, at least I thought he was expected to be. I don't know why else we would make that trade. Quin must value Ingles ability to create and handle the ball more than Novak's shooting.

I know a couple of times last year Jeremy got abused on D playing the 3. I'm not sure he has the lateral quicks. I thought the last game of the season vs. the TWolves was a good one but that was at the 4.

A SF needs to be able to dribble, pass and shoot, Evans really can't do any of those things at the NBA level. He's just not a good NBA player. That is why he does not play.

It just surprises me that Evans was basically put on the no fly list before even the preseason.

The fact that Novak is getting less minutes on the Jazz than on playoff Toronto is actually kind of encouraging. It means we have some depth at the 3-4 position and that Booker has been doing some of the things that we got Novak for(3pt shooting) much better than expected, which renders Novak kind of irrelevant because of his defensive flaws/total lack of rebounding and toughness.

Ian Clarke not getting minutes is mainly due to Exum playing better than expected.

Very true; he didn't get much of a chance. I know Booker is better, but I still think Evans can contribute to an NBA team. I hope he gets that chance. He will always be on my list of all-time Jazz favorites. I don't know that there's been a more likable player.

I'm surprised Quinn hasn't given him a chance. But he did that with some guys in the preseason that aren't here too.

Jeremy was pretty good from mid range last year.

43.4% from 3 - 10 ft
42.1% from 10 - 16 ft
33.3% from 16 out

I would have to assume its an issue with defense and/or just needing to give other guys more minutes
