What's The Last Movie You’ve Seen?

I think he was responding to our exchange about relationships. None of the relationships had any depth to them really.

No depth between MM and JL's characters? Ok. We are on opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to the characters in this movie.

Duly noted in respect to your post's miscommunication.

Again, you had your reaction and I had mine.

Exactly.

And mine is right and yours is wrong and we can still be friends. Isn't that great?

:)

I just got roped into watching Don Jon. I really like JGL as an actor, and I figured I'd like this movie after seeing the reviews for it.

It was pretty good. My biggest problem with it was the development of the protagonist. It seemed he had all these problems, and then he just changed rather quickly. The writing was trying hard to be very good, but it didn't quite get there imo. I won't say anything else because I don't want to spoil it.

Looks like it's 81% on RT, seems like it could be right, but I'd have probably given it a little lower, like, 73-75

Anyhow, I have not seen Dallas Buyer's Club yet. I am excited to watch that. I have Wolf of Wall Street, but haven't watched it because I always end up watching a shorter movie. Also, a bit concerned that it would be a turn-off for my movie companions. As arousing as Scorsese can be for me, it has the opposite effect on many people.

Yeah, it was a kind of a weird movie. I probably would have given it a 50% rating but whatever. I agree on the writing. It was rushed.

This is encouraging. I'll watch it tomorrow.

I like Leo and Scorsese, so, naturally, I was a bit surprised after seeing some of the reviews.

It is a polarizing movie to be sure.

I might've rated it lower in actuality, but I have large JGL blinders. The story had potential, but I didn't like that many of the characters were caricatures. Would have been better if some of the people were a little more real. I mean, I get trying to satirical, but it seemed over the top.

Ah, I remember my original intention for posting in here. Got the hookups tomorrow to watch Lawrence of Arabia in 70 mm on the big screen tomorrow. This dude shows it every holiday! I've seen it on the big screen once before, but it's been a while. I remember being the best cinematic experience of my life.

**** yeah. I once saw Apocalypse Now from the original 70mm negative at one of the Academy theaters for it's 20th Anniversary. I will never forget that experience. Enjoy!

Four movies I really want to see this fall/winter.

Gone Girl--if you haven't done so, read the book

The Foxcatcher--I remember this from when I was in college. Crazy ****. Literally. Carrell and Tatum look legit.

Interstellar--Chris Nolan, interesting concept

Inherent Vice--Paul Thomas Anderson, no trailer yet dammit

Some of the better movies I've seen over the last few months, before I came back on the board and since.

Once_Upon_a_Time_in_Anatolia-224557335-large.jpg

If you like foreign films, I highly recommend this. Great detective film but it's really more one about discovery. I would hope Hekate and some other Turks would have seen this already and I'd like their thoughts on it. It is long and methodically slow but it works. For some it didn't, hence the lower user ratings on RT. 93%/73% RT. 7.8 imdb.

THE-HUNT-Poster-02.jpg

Same as above. Foreign film. Great, great flick about a man accused of molesting one of his very young students and the aftermath. I liked it better than the former and highly, highly recommend this. 93%/93% RT. 8.3 imdb.

Henry%20Fonda.jpg

Hadn't seen this in over 20 years. A classic with a stellar cast. If you haven't seen it, it's a must-watch. 100%/97% RT. 8.9 imdb.

Watched Once Upon A Time in Anatolia. I too hope that they have seen it. If you haven't Don't let 160 minutes scare you. Also glad to see Turkish cinema is getting some recognition.

12 Angry Men. Just awesome. One of the best actings I have ever seen. All 12 of them.

The Hunt. Heard nothing but praises. I will be watching soon.
