Did you see Bernie? I thought that Linklater film was truly excellent.
Wow was that Linklater? Yeah that was solid.

So far of all the best pictures nominees Boyhood is really the one that sticks in my mind the most (seeing American Sniper today, Imitation Game later in the week).I can see people thinking the Boyhood thing as gimmicky, but ultimately it was a pretty fascinating and unique idea for a film. Even if it is a gimmick, it's the inception of a gimmick imo. That should at least be worth something. Better to create a gimmick than to copy one.
Bernie was awesome for sure. I didn't enjoy Slacker as much as I hoped I would. I think if I was of that specific generation and familiar with the area and lifestyle concerning the film that it would resonate much, much more. The before films are pretty good, but really only needed the one tbh. Didn't see the last one.

Boyhood just had this genuiness to it that I didn't get with the others. It is an honest study of life, love and change that we as human all have to go through - not just the boy but the other actors as well (both Hawk and Arquette received Oscars nod).
Then there is that ending which I still cannot get it out of my head since watching it.
Good list. Couldn't get into Birdman neither.Ranking best picture nominees. Haven't seen Selma.
1. Imitation Game
2. Whiplash
3. Grand Budapest Hotel
4. Boyhood
5. Theory of Everything
6. American Sniper
7. Birdman ( great performances, could not get into the story AT ALL, fell asleep at two different points.)
Interstellar>>All of them.
Guardians of the Galaxy would fall somewhere in the middle of that list.
I may be overvaluing Grand Budapest because I wasn't interested in seeing it at all. And I was very pleasantly surprised. I thought it was very well made, and HILARIOUS. It's actually a dark horse to win for me. It's got that 'academy feel' and Wes Anderson has no BP Oscars. So it could also be like a career achievement thing.Good list. Couldn't get into Birdman neither.
Grand Budapest didn't have enough heart or emotion for me. It was very very well made but I just couldn't connect with it at all.
Whiplash is kinda like Black Swan but with drumming so it probably won't have enough to win best picture.
It's a real shame that most edgy or indie movies just won't have enough of what the Academy is looking for.
American Sniper.
Sorry but not a big fan of this movie. I'm not being unpatriotic or anything, but just thought it was a bit dry and don't think it's as good as the Hurt Locker.
So are you a Nazi, anti-Semite or both?

I didn't get this unpatriotic term you used.
I recall a time you have used "our troops" term for US soldiers before.
Are you American? I thought you were Asian originated New Zealander.
Or maybe, do you see the entire English spoken territories of the world as English Colonies and see yourself, Americans and all the others as Neo-English?
I wanted to see that and then just totally forgot about it all togetherWatched a movie that didn't get even close to as much attention as it deserved. The Drop. As always Tom Hardy is so good. I believe it was James Gandolfini's last film also. Loved it.

Alrighty. I wish we had allies like yours. Ours are kinda worse than enemies tbh.Well NZ and US are allies, so when US troops are going to Iraq to fight, I consider them fighting for us as well.
