Sadly they just thought the only thing anyone likes about those movies are the sight gags and overacting characters, so they just threw a ****-ton of that in there instead of bothering to have a plot of any kind. Are we talking about high expectations for Despicable Me 4? That's like expecting your McDonalds order to taste like fine dining.
 
Bone Tomahawk. I thoroughly enjoyed this. 8/10.

I saw the director’s Cell Block film a couple weeks ago which was also solid: 7/10.
 
Not a movie specifically, but I watched all eight episodes of The Acolyte this week. The only character I liked was the bad guy who was not even in about half of the episodes. It was a Star Wars show with TONS of deaths, but very few of them were directly shown. Strange story. 5/10 at best

Same. I have pretty much stopped watching all Star Wars content, it is all the same anymore. It doesn't understand or show respect to the mythological themes that brought heart and soul to the first 3 movies. Lucas started losing that with releasing episodes 1-3 (midichlorians? really?). Now that Disney has it, every installment has been worse than the last. The old guard (Luke, Vader, Obiwan, etc.) are barely worth pissing on if they were on fire, from the standpoint of the current writers and show runners. They are way too focused on agenda-driven "stories", if you can even call them that. They have really become propaganda pieces. So, sad to see a beloved franchise flushed down the *****er, but I am done with Star Wars, and most anything else Disney has control over.

If you thought midichlorians were a strange addition. In the Acolyte there is a coven of force sensitive witches on a planet that everyone thinks is baren and they use something called a convergence or vergence of force that create a child (no men on the planet) and somehow split it into 2 "twin" girls that are somehow 2 halves of the same force-created person so they are supposedly extra powerful. Events happen where one is raised by jedi and the other by sith. Won't say what happens from there and spoil the series.
 
I've watched every non animated star wars series Dinsey + has put out so far. I've mostly hated all of them, but not for the reasons mentioned here, it's because I don't think they are very well written, directed, acted, or produced. Still I watch them all for reasons beyond my understanding.

The one exception to this is Andor, which I really enjoyed most of the episodes. Andor is much more of a human story than a supernatural story though, so that might have something to do with it. Mostly I just thought the writing and acting were a couple levels above the other series.

That is exactly what I hate about most of the post original 6 films star wars projects. I just feel it is because they are intent on pushing an agenda rather than creating (so, writing) a good story with a good cast and good direction and good production. If they were more concerned with creating a good story rather than pushing an agenda I think we would get a better product. As it is, it all sucks.

I see what you are saying, but I don't get as concerned about agenda pushing. I think you can have well made movies that push an agenda and poorly made movies that don't.

Agreed to a point. As soon as the agenda becomes the plot or almost comes in as a character then it becomes in most cases trash. I mean you could argue that "A Handmaid's Tale" is 100% agenda driven, but it's still largely a good story with excellent writing and production value. So yes it can be done. But it's simultaneously a good, well-written story, with excellent production and acting, etc. But I have yet to see that in the Star Wars world where the story is sacrificed on the altar of agenda. At least for the newest stuff and most of the stuff on Disney+. And in fact in articles and interviews those in control at Disney have stated as much. That they were never fans of the original series and are using this as a chance to retcon star wars and turn it into a vehicle for their agenda. And as a result it generates terrible stories.
 
The same thing happened with the Witcher which is why Cavill left the series. The writers and show-runners even stated they hated the original material and they were going to use the Witcher as a platform for driving their agenda forward. Now I'll still watch whatever comes out as I'm a huge fan of the Witcher series in general (books and games, not necessarily the show), but my expectations are incredibly low.
 
Im currently watching Poor Things. Im still pretty early on but so far I would simply say its weird and interesting but not sure if I like it or not.
