What's with Jazz players and Media Free Meals?!?!

The thing is though, other teams don't seem to do it, as the POR guy said, only 1 player has done it all season, but today 2 Jazz players are eating there.

I'd guess opponents would be worried that the food would be tainted.

Over/under on how many free buffets Julius Randle eats at during the season is set at 80.

Thoughts on players at media buffets:

1. I think a lot of players from around the league eat the media buffet food, but normally they have a ballboy take their order so they can stay in the locker room and watch film, stretch, whatever. But because of the way the Jazz stretch out their warmups, so they have only one or two guys out on the court at once, Jazz players have more waiting time pregame than usual.

2. The Jazz's media buffet is very good, probably top 5 in the league. I've heard it called #1 before, depending on how much you like desserts. It's also free, which is somewhat unusual. So Rudy and company get used to good food and are more willing to test out media buffets around the league as a result. Note: the players never take the desserts.

3. They don't really ever eat with us, they just take the food back to the locker room. So there's not really much of an opportunity to ask them questions, unless you happen to get in the line at the same time as them. Besides, if we want to ask them questions, we can pregame in the locker room during a half hour window before the game.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Andy, that's very helpful and a great insight as always.

Are you able to tell us what kind of food is served there, and what makes the Jazz the top #5 buffet in the league? Quality? Variety?

I heard it was the fry sauce and green jello with carrots that put them over the top.

4. Media members who tweet that players are using the media buffet, as if that's some sort of crime and something the world needs to be aware of, are twits.

Hope this helps.
Hey Andy,
I added number 4 for you because I understand why you're sort of hesitant to say it yourself.

Great post by Mr. Larsen. It is always fun, and a little weird when a real person shows up here with a real name. Its like an actor breaking the fourth wall.

Between Andy's post about food and Jody's tweets about parking it looks like my previous post in this thread got it wrong. So, I will recant and say, good for the Jazz and every other team that gives food to media members who stay up past 1:00 Am working on Jazz stories and then have to walk a mile in the dark to reach their rental car.

I would assume Portland players eat at their homes before the game. The Jazz are staying in hotels. If they get to the arena and are hungry and learn about a free buffet then why not?

Do the ballboys ever eat some off the plates as they're carrying the food to the locker room? Ball boys gotta be hungry, too!
