What's new

What's wrong with Millsap?

The first 12 games of last season he went for 21.5 and 9.5, to then go for 14.5 and 6.5 the next 12 games in roughly the same minutes.

Just saying

5 of 7 from the field , 8 of 8 from foul line, 10 rebounds, 4 assists . what's wrong with this guy?
And played very good team and man defense (against David West and Tyler Hansbrough). Obviously, he's not going to put up 18 and 10 on .500+ shooting every night, but he's easily been earning his pay checks this season.

You only have to watch the games to see he needs a little extra rest. It's not a knock on him. But he's already wearing down. We desperately need him to win and he clearly needs a little time to rejuvenate. Just sit the guy for a game from time to time.

I think what we are seeing are just a natural flux of a player dependent on his jump shot. Millsap is a pretty good PF without his jump shot, but when he is nailing his jumper he becomes a top 10 PF. Sometimes it just isn't falling, but he continues to try it and he just ends up having bad nights. On the other side, there are stretches when it seems like he could make shots blindfolded and he has huge games.

I like that this year he isn't letting these fluxes get in the way of his rebounding and defensive effort like it seemed to do last year.

Nothing surprising here. Millsap will always have a couple of stretches every season where he will put up big numbers and then he will fade away for other stretches. He is just 26, averaging just 31 mins and is not even the focal point of the post offense and yet we talk of him "wearing down". Being undersized in this league night in and night out probably does that to you. He will show up sometime though.
