What's new

When did you get your first gun?

I got a Daisy BB gun for christmas when I was 5 and a custom 14 ga when I was 12. The 14 ga had a hand carved walnut stock. (really miss the shotti) My cousins had a pair of ruger 22s and a colt 22 pistol. I have fond memories shooting the rugers and wanted to buy one this last winter. No ammo and they were sold out of the gun. Kinda shocking tbh.

I'm going to laugh when we elect a republican and every idiot prepper that paid 2-3x what they should have for 10x more rounds then they will ever shoot is left sitting on all that ammo.

jerks

Kind of harsh. I bought 3 guns.. all with specific utility in mind .. and quite a lot of ammo. Not sure how that makes me a jerk.

Ahh the good old days when you could find .22 LR...

FWIW, I don't keep guns for self defense. It takes way too long to get to them if you want any reasonable amount of safety from them.

Yep pretty much my take. Either I could keep them at the ready and risk my son or one of his friends shooting them self or someone else or I could keep them stored safely and forget about using them in an emergency.

The huge Remington bullet factory expansion in Arkansas was supposed to open up last quarter (I haven't been able to find any news on it since the groundbreaking). The supply shock won't last forever, and when it ends the bullets should be cheap as hell. Everyone who bought for Obama Armageddon will be spent.

You know for all the constitution talk that they spout none of them seem to understand the separation of powers. Any gun legislation is DOA in the house. ****in morons

I'm patient though. I still have my original pea shooter and my daughter has one. We can still plink pop cans in the mean time. Not sure she is ready to shoot a 22 anyway. It would be mostly for my enjoyment tbh.

I bought a Mosin Nagant (Comparable to a 30-06) like 5 years ago. Cheap rifle, open sights, and a lot of cheap Russian surplus ammo available. You have to keep the barrel clean and I probably wouldn't put the steel **** in a more expensive rifle.

rednecks galore.
I enjoyed reading about your guns
Me?
I am a 12 gauge person. I believe in the wisdom of having one in the vicinity.

My kids aren't old enough to worry about yet.

About 15 years ago I heard you're more likely to shoot one of your own than to stave off an intruder. Do you know if this is true? Whether it is or not, personal experience has myself keeping guns away from myself at night.

That's the advice I gave to everyone I knew with .223 ammo 4 years ago. They could have sold cases of 1000 rounds for $1000 or more. It's back down to about $260 now, which is even cheaper than before the hoarding started. One of these days when I make time I'm going to stock up about $10k in AR-15's and ammo, then root for another Sandy Hook. J/K about rooting for it but y'all know what I mean. It's about as risk free an investment as you can make.

I got my first one when, like most things, I bought it myself. 4 years ago, I have since gotten a second gun and will buy 2-3 more over time.

This might surprise some folks.. but I bought my first gun a year ago. At the age of 24
no, but srsly.. a year ago..

How many stories do you read about tragic accidents involving children and guns? I know, guns don't kill, irresponsible owners do. But seriously, if you're going to own a gun for protection against criminals breaking in, that gun will need to be loaded and quickly accessible. And how realistic is it to think that the FIRST thing you do in the morning is going to be locking up that gun?

I went absolutely BALLISTIC one summer (pun intended) when I learned my father-in-law kept a loaded gun in his nightstand. I simply refused to allow my daughter (who was 4 at the time) to visit unless/until he locked them up during our stay. He has grandchildren of various ages in/out of the house every summer (he owns a house on a delta). Any one of them could have found that gun. I'm still scared to death he'll "forget" to lock up the gun when my daughter and the other grandchildren visit. Not once has he ever had an intruder. But the odds are much greater one of the children is going to find a gun he "forgets" to properly store. All it takes is one time.

Not really, they just have to believe that it is loaded. 99% of the time they are going to turn tail and run instead of waiting to find out.

I've heard the same thing. Not sure how true it is. Stats on this issue can be pretty misleading because I think they typically only keep stats when someone dies or at least only when shots are fired. How often does someone investigate a bump in the night holding a gun and the potential intruder scurries off into the night and that's as far as it goes? I bet that happens more often than the anti-gun crowd would like to admit.

When I was banned I wanted to start a thread regarding a few of the incidents that have happened recently. One was a guy at a gas station who shot several rounds into a van full of black teenagers and killed on of them because he said they flashed a shotgun barrel (most likely wasn't actually a shotgun) after a confrontation over them playing their music too loud. And another when a college kid was challenged to a "prank" where he went into someone's garage to take (steal) something and was shot dead. Then there's the Pistorius case where he shot his girl friend through the bathroom door. The man who shot a drunk 17 year old girl on his front porch because she was knocking loudly asking for help after she wrecked her car.

I think people have been given the notion that it is okay to fire rounds just in case there is a bad guy at the other end of the barrel. I think that mentality needs to be radically changed. I think everyone in the cases I've listed are straight up murderers. Although I think they all (with the exception of Pistorius) felt justified pulling the trigger.
