Yea, whatever. There are a few reasonable to talk to people here (GD), but mostly not. Go ahead and eyeroll. It’s my opinion from years of lurking, participating, ignoring, moderating, etc. it’s just as valid as your opinion. Most moderating comes from here, not the basketball section. That might say something about the differing levels of discourse, and some of the Jazz threads are not great. Not that I care all that much, it gives variety and it seems we get bored at times.

I just think real “conservatives” won’t bother coming here to “talk”. Especially with this enticing thread title, really helps them feel welcome probably.

It appears that way. Lumping everyone together into one group is a great way to foster an inviting atmosphere.

I like and miss Spazz, I think he is a valued member of the board. Recently when he comes on to post something it usually feels like he is overly defensive at the outset and then delivers a facebook copy/paste hit-piece. I would appreciate his point of view on these topics for sure, but he seems to take it far too personally when people disagree. Maybe he is a Trumper, no idea. But that might explain the implied expression that literally everyone is threatening to him. I would feel that way if I supported Trump, I can tell you that. But I would love to hear a measured and reasoned explanation as to why someone would support Trump that lays it out in a way we can understand the motivations. Hence that video I posted a couple weeks ago about the small town that switched from Democrat to Trump voters in a single election cycle and their explanations for why, which I really appreciated.

It’s because people assume crap like this all the time. I don’t Facebook. I despise Trump, but I also don’t wish him dead and spout I wish the shooter hadn’t missed. I absolutely hate the two party system as it is now. I feel like all well intentioned politicians from either party get ate up and spit out, or change drastically in order to get things done only to find out they are stuck and have become what they originally despised. There are too many convoluted political practices I hate. I hate having to concede to allow into law packages things we hate to get something we want because of the constant fighting for power. Concessions sound more like a war term these days.

On some topics I have conservative ideas, others I have liberal ideas, but I don’t classify myself as either. I vote for the best person available. I want to be able to sleep at night.

I read GD. If I come in defensive, it’s because I see how people talk here and it sucks, a lot, most of the time.

Even just assuming I might support trump because my posts are defensive, that bullcrap sucks.

I don’t care if people disagree, it’s how they disagree. I think we need people that disagree to talk, but talk, not fight and piss on each other. Not scorn them, call them idiots, be aggressive or passive aggressive, or whatever we tend to do. It’s fun in the moment, but it kills actual conversation.

I’m not scolding. Just telling people what I see. Take it with a grain of salt. Change, don’t change. Who cares. I have no power over anyone but myself… but I will listen to you and try to be less defensive and whiny after this.

Thank you for responding, seriously I mean it. I wish you would get involved in more discussions. To be fair I think we see what you are pointing out more frequently from a certain hyper-liberal poster and some of the more trollerish posters. Yeah sometimes the discussion gets heated. And yeah, absent other information, assumptions are made. We're humans and that's what humans do, not to be patronizing, but it's just the nature of the beast. And I think recently especially politics has been generally more polarizing than in the past and that bleeds into the forum. I for one would welcome your voice in these discussions and I appreciate you clarifying your viewpoint even just as briefly as you did here. Please join in, it will only elevate the discussion and help improve the forum.

But whatever you decide to do, I can't think of a single person here who has anything but respect for you or legitimately toward any other poster, except maybe the trolls, who get very very tiresome.

Perish the day I’m anti-humor. I can laugh at the Babylon Bee, and I can laugh at sites like The Onion as well. And The Daily Show when it’s Jon Stewart’s night. C’mon, what’s better than a humorous interpretation of current events? We need it.

Thanks for clarifying that. I was not aware. A lot of times the videos seen in a tweet can be clicked on here, in the forum comment, without having to go to X.

With all of the best intentions to try again to participate again in a reasonable manner, I went to a thread that had been updated and read through it to catch up on the conversation. I got to the part where thriller, red, and sardines (through words or likes) lumped all conservatives together as Russia lovers, said they like Russia because they haven’t called them racists yet and that the only thing conservatives hate more than minorities is being called racist.

Nope. Not ready.

Maybe later. I can’t really moderate if I start blocking people.

I couldn’t see through that to find a reasonable conversation point.

Maybe next week. lol I will try again though.
