Where’s all the Gun Nuts?

The Thriller

Well-Known Member
I want to start out by saying that I don’t condone violence. But as someone who gee up in ruby red Utah and hearing almost daily how the 2nd amendment and gun nuts is all that stood between America being a flourishing democracy and devolving into an authoritarian hellscape, I find it interesting that all those “freedom fighting” gun nuts have gone MIA lately. Why aren’t they concerned with colleges being assaulted and defunded for permitting free speech on their campuses? Where are the gun nuts standing up for judges, doctors, and pollsters that Trump attacks? Why aren’t they making a peep about deportations of American citizens who wrongspeak? Isn’t like freedom of speech supposed to be important? Why aren’t they standing up for social security recipients? Why aren’t militias forming to protest tariffs? Deportations? The debasement of our friends and allies? Why instead do we see these gun nuts helping to enforce authoritarianism?

As someone who endured the tea bagger movement, I find it fascinating that these losers rushed to defend a racist welfare cow herder in Nevada (the bundy kkklan) but are mysteriously silent when an actual fascist has taken office and is executing unconstitutional and racist policies as we speak. Where’s the militia to protect the most vulnerable in our society? Why do they care more about teslas and protecting Musk than Medicaid recipients?

Wasn’t one of the main reasons why the idiotic second amendment is so sacrosanct because it was supposed to protect us? Instead, haha I think we’re seeing a first hand lesson about why the second amendment was established; it has always meant to empower white and powerful conservatives over more progressive minded people and outcasts/vulnerable population. I think this amendment needs to be adjusted to meet modern day societies and their well-being. It’s clear that the second only empowers authoritarians and their brownshirts. It literally does nothing to preserve American democracy. In fact, it acts to squash it and empower American democracy’s enemies.

I was always taught that the second was supposed to protect our democracy, not hinder it

If judges are afraid to enforce the law out of fear of Trump’s goons, what are we even doing? What’s the point of maintaining a stupid second amendment? If all it’s going to do is help a fascist consolidate power and slaughter school children, it’s time to severely alter it or alter our current interpretation of it. It’s not helping society at large.

Your ability to reverse yourself is impressive. You create a thread calling for gun nuts to protect democracy by assassinating Trump, and two posts later cry that there to too many gun nuts so we have to repeal the second amendment.

I get the impression you don't care about gun nuts, or the second amendment, or even judges. You just want someone to kill the President of the United States because your chosen candidate didn't win.

I'll tell you that in all this unrest even my wife asked me to help her learn to shoot so she feels more comfortable using a gun. She's afraid there will come a point where people go after liberals through their Facebook posts. She might not be wrong. So I bought another AR15, an M&P15 to be precise, that was on sale on Bud's. She's gone shooting with me before but that last time at the range with her new AR she was serious and attentive and did really well. Hopefully there isn't a civil war but if there is, better to be prepared. My wife generally hates guns. She understands I like them so she tolerates it, and I'm a responsible gun owner, keep them locked up, ammo separate from the guns, etc. never thought she'd ask me something like that. Kind of puts things in perspective. I guess a teacher she works with received threats through Facebook for posting a bunch of stuff against Musk. Not anything threatening to Musk or anything, literally just reposting articles detailing what Musk is actually doing. And i guess that was enough for some people to make burner accounts and threaten her. What the **** is going on?

Off topic but on my neighborhood Facebook group page a dude posted a story with video and pictures about an incident he recently had where there was some road rage stuff in the gym parking lot between him and another dude (one cut off the other and then the other one brake checked him) and the "victim" was followed to his home where ring camera footage shows the victim get out of his truck and start walking to the other car that is in the road in front of his house and the driver pulls a gun and points it at him and he runs back behind his truck and the other guy drives off.

In the comments section most people are saying how the guy who pulled the gun out is a jerk and how the victim should call the cops on him and stuff but there are also quite a few that are saying how the victim should have been carrying so he could have pulled his gun and shot at the other guy.

I'm like, we have hindsight here and the best case scenario happened. No one was shot. Thank God the victim wasn't carrying and couldn't pull his gun.

You can't provoke a confrontation and then claim justified use of force to end the confrontation you started. I'd say both men had forfeited their right to use deadly force in this situation.

There was a situation several years ago where an over zealos armed neighborhood watch guy was following three 13 year old girls in his truck because he thought they seemed suspicious. When the virus got to one of their houses they told one of their fathers that a creepy guy was following them. The dad grabbed a gun and went out to confront the neighborhood watcher. The watcher drew his gun and if I remember correctly they both fired but neither was seriously hurt.

The situation was so much safer because of all the guns the good guys had.

Sure you can. Look at Kyle Rittenhouse. Went to a protest specifically to shoot people. Was aggressive in his approach so other people felt they needed to stop an armed man walking around a protest and he got what he wanted and shot people. And he became a celebrity.

Moral of the story is that most of the time adding a gun to a confrontational situation makes the situation worse. Even if there is already one gun involved, adding another one will usually make it worse.

The no one was shot in the scenario I posted because thankfully the one dude didn't have a gun so when a gun was pulled on him he ran for cover. No one was shot. Many people were saying that it's too bad that he didn't have a gun so he could protect himself.
That would almost certainly just mafe the situation worse.

If he had that on his ring camera he should have filed charges against the guy.

I started CCing. I’m now extra cautious to avoid confrontations, as I’ve always been. I never want to pull my gun, ever. But I have it if needed, and that’s comfort.

If you pull your gun be prepared for 3 things:

1. Legal ramifications
2. Major financial ramifications
3. Mental and emotional trauma

I don’t want any of those things. I would need to go through all of those things in order to pull my gun and use it. Saving a life, including my own, is the only reasoning for me.
