I understand your logic, but you are forgetting something. Half of the NBA is in the luxury for 2018-19. So half of the NBA can't even buy. We have two young franchise cornerstones (Mitchell and Gobert) - a 2nd or 3rd tier player might be intrigued by joining. And since many don't have money to spend, we might get a good player for cheaper than when everybody overspends in 2019. So if we have money in 2018 (which we could), we would stand a better chance of buying a player than we would when almost all of the league has money in 2019.

When I think of possible 2018 targets, I'm thinking of guys like:

Avery Bradley
Mirotic (if his option is somehow declined)
Tyreke Evans
Kyle Anderson
Will Barton
JJ Reddick
Patrick McCaw
Ilyasova
Herzonja

And of course we have the opportunity to take a contract if we wanted. If Portland dumps a guy like Harkless and we actually wanted him, we could. This summer will be chaos since so many teams are staring down the luxury tax. Some, like Portland and Washington, will be looking at repeat offender if they don't make a move.

Nope definitely didn't forget. I'd take Hood over most that list.

The Mavs are going to get involved in the Kings and Cavs deal involving George Hill. Why you ask? Because they only have 14 guys on their roster and they have cap space. The Mavs will end up getting handed an asset or two just because they have those luxuries.

Little deals like this are why we try to trade somebody like Burks now. If he's not part of the solution, he's part of the problem. Half of the league is in the luxury next year. Any team with space and a roster spot is going to reap the benefits.

Jazz should buy out Joe Jesus and let him try to get onto a playoff team. He should not have to finish his career on a lotto team. After the Clippers series last year, he’s earned the right from the Jazz to pick his next team.

I agree. If we get past the deadline without a trade that needs ole Joe, we should buy him out so he can chase that dream. We owe him that. He owes us nothing.

What if Joe Jesus wants to be here? Personally, I love what he brings to the team on and off the court. He's the type of professional that is great for young players to be around.

What if Joe wants his $10M and an early summer vacation?

Why would he want to be here?

I disagree. People are inflating the value on that pick. Even if the roster improves enough to make it to another Finals, that pick is worth trading. For as much as people want to dream that is a top 3 pick, its not. If Cleveland is worried about losing that, they could protect it.

Hell, the Cavs could trade us the Brooklyn pick and **** expirings for Favors and Hood. They could put a top 7 protection on it. For the Cavs, getting 2 NBA starter quality players is more important than hoping a #8-12 pick is worth a crap. Their window is slamming shut and they need players.

Pick could be top 5. I am sticking with my guns on this one. Unless they get someone who can entice LeBron to stay, they would be foolish to trade this pick. And almost any team would be ecstatic to get it. Not happening. If it happens I will buy give you 5 bucks to spend at Taco Bell. That is how sure I am.

[After the deadline] Everyone who’s convinced there’s no way Hood isn’t traded: “Yeah, I don’t think people realize how incredibly hard it is to trade people.”
Yeah, but he is a RFA free agent. He is someone you cant just lose for nothing. You can do that w/ Favors. If the Jazz arent 100% committed to Hood, you have to trade him, and it seems like that is the case.
