I prefer the "wait until we're near the trade deadline" strategy. If Jeff can be signed for <$10mm per (he can't), I'd look at extending. I don't see going to FA as a huge gamble; the Jazz can offer more to Jefferson and/or Millsap than anyone else. I imagine their respective agents have a pretty good idea what their market value will be next offseason.
Also, "trade Jeffy, gamble on Millsap" could be a viable option, depending on the return in the Jeffy trade.
Years matter, and the Jazz can offer one more. It's worth considering the possibility of moving those guys next summer in a sign-and trade too. That is how we acquired the TPE that turned in Jeffy.Except neither is a max guy so this doesn't matter.
Preferably an upgrade at the 2/3 or a longterm point guard.Yeah. What would that realistically be?
Just thinking out loud... As much as I love Millsap, I'd trade him if it landed a big upgrade at PG. I don't know who that would be, so juss sayin.
I'd trade Al for a couple of picks and a 4th big.
Millsap and Mo Williams for Rondo and...(drum roll)...Jason Collins!!!
I could see them marching out a Mo, Terry, Pierce, Millsap, Garnett fivesome...
Jeffy with great court vision tonight, but Sap and Burks Biffed The Pass so no asst yet.
I've been waiting by the phone for this offer. It'll take the GSW pick and then some, but that's actually a sexy Celtics team so I don't know why it wouldn't be compelling for another Pierce-Garnett push. Potentially strong bench depth with Bass, Green, Lee, Darko (yes), & two promising rooks.
Just curious, Frank, how are you liking Kanter? How likely do you think it is that he'll be ready for 28+ minutes by the trade deadline? If he is, how well do you think he and Jefferson complement each other (since they'd have to play together for every minute over 20 that Jefferson gets)?
eh? Dude's been passing alright the last couple games (and the passes are crisp/precise). And how the hell is he awful in the post? He's putting a lot of pressure on opposing defenses. I'd say he's shown solid improvement as the preseason has progressed in the two areas where he was lacking most: Passing and keeping the ball up.If Jefferson is a black hole then Kanter is the singularity that resulted in the big bang. The guy is awful in the post...

You disagree? There's a reason he's been passing more the last couple games: Teams are starting to bring an extra defender to help when he has the ball in the post. Did you watch the last two games?Haha I didn't think you would take things that far.
1. So you're not watching the games (since, you know, he generally posts up from the left block, and has started going middle before countering with a spin or up-and-under). How many post moves does Jefferson have? How frequently does he go middle and finish without countering with a spin or up-and-under? Have I just missed Al's devastating drop step or sky hook?Kanter has one post move and scrub defenders are recognizing it. Bump, bump right shoulder, spin left. He is getting better--especially at mixing the up and under into this instead of the other way around--but has a long way to go. As for his passes, I have no clue what you're talking about. Passing it back out to the point guard?

2. Yes, the Al Jefferson pass. Kanter's look nicer fwiw.
While I point out how inept Jefferson has been trying to operate off the ball or with the ball from the high post?Re-watch the games if you can and you'll see what I'm talking about. Either that or I'll point it out to you in chat in real time if you're in there.

He is what he is: A sub-par leading man, incapable of playing a complementary role. His brand of basketball also happens to be about as entertaining as watching paint dry. If we're striving for mediocrity, I'd prefer a little entertainment value. Do you actually want him on this team next season? If Kanter took all his minutes and possessions(with Evans taking Kanter's minutes), how much worse do you think the Jazz would be (would they be any further from contention?)? Why?Funny how much you actually hate the guy. Go ahead and point everyone out; I'll prolly agree with you while laughing at how much better JF thinks Kanter actually is.
