What's new

Which Jazz player has the most to prove this season?

Kanter and it's not even close. No one is even a distant second.

No player has as much to loose as Kanter. This year, he either shows that he can play on both ends of the floor or he will become, at best, a journeyman drifter in this league.

EASY: Burks and Kanter = Contract Year

Will they be extended by 10/31 ?????

Hayward --- uh no, just got paid. Hos big year is year 3 from now becasue HE can opt out.

Jazz got burnt by not signing last year.

What will they do with Burks and Kanter

Kanter: Because of his 3rd pick status and the contract year situation. His first two year were promising but his third year was disappointing. The funny thing about Kanter is first of all he has to show that he is a real starter and then prove some glimpses of special moments.

Hayward: Of course because of his Max-Contract and Jazz wants to illustrate him as a franchise player, which he clearly isn't. No offense to Gordon IMO he is a pretty good player but he needs a superstar desperately.

This.
It is not Hayward.. Hayward has to prove his worth the 12M that many or most think he's worth (on the top end). No one, who is serious Jazzfan Should be thinking he must prove that he is worth 16. It was a clear overpay. Time to move on.

Kanter on the other hand is a big unknown and is at the point of proving his worth (and i even think this is true without consideration that it is a contract year. )

No, I disagree. Hayward needs to prove he's worth the $16M. He wanted the money, he needs to earn it. He doesn't get a pass from me...

So we offer them each 4 yrs/$48M. Good deals?

What if one of them "blows up" and gets offered $16M next season?
What if Kanter doesn't play defense and Burks can't hit 3's?

Signing either (but especially Kanter) is a HUGE risk. If Enes or Alec have amazing seasons and someone offers them a big contract, you gladly match. If either disappoints, you've saved yourself from a potentially crippling contract. I'd throw low offers at both and negotiate a bit with Alec. But I'd make Enes prove his worth, especially on the defensive end.

I think this thread is divided according to how you define "most to prove". I took it from the standpoint of most to prove to the team or the fans, and in that regard it is Hayward hands down needing to prove he is worth the money. The other track is prove their worth to get their own big contract. In that regard it is obviously one of the other guys like Kanter or Burks at that point.

Hayward and nobody else is even close. If Hayward disappoints and the team is losing, he is going to quickly become the redheaded step child/whipping boy/scapegoat. He's in the hot seat without a doubt.

If his moral being down because of the coach was the issue for Kanter last year -who I think performed really well in the end season- this season is the exact opposite for him so we shall see a big big BIG step forward from him.

He looks Stoked as this little cutesy pie:

I encourage you to keep this in your pocket. I know that you are down on him especially after what Booker has shown, but there is a possibility that he will find back his game eventually.
