What's new

Which player under contract for next year already plans on leaving after this season is over?

I'm almost 100% it's Raja Bell. I thought I heard something about Bell and Corbin getting into it a little bit the last game.. something like that. If it's not Bell, it's Miles. It'd really surprise me if it was anyone else. Millsap, for some reason, wouldn't surprise me if he up and left, either.

While Jefferson has not lived up to expectations defensively (although he is an undersized center. When are we gonna learn to play people at their true positions?) he has lived up to expectations on the offensive end.

I don't get why 6'10" is undersized. Hell, Moses Malone, one of the great centers in NBA history, was 'only' 6'10". Kendrick Perkins is listed at 6'10," and he's a very serviceable center. Wes Unseld was only 6'7" and he's a hall of famer for heaven's sake. These are only a few examples that spring immediately to mind. There are, I'm certain, others. 6'10" is not too small to play center and to play it well. Can we please put this argument to rest?

THIS!

Dude is 6'10.. not 6'8 or 6'7! Hell, Chuck Hayes is somewhere in that range and he's a pretty darn good defensive center. The only thing holding down Al is himself when he doesn't play good defense. If he'd put the same amount of heart and dedication into defense/rebounding he'd easily be an all-star.

Totally agree and I cant wait to see a line up of Harris, Hayward, AK, Favors, Big AL next year for 30 minutes agame. Thats a big lineup. Maybe with Fez being the back up Center. Wouldnt that be awesome to always have our 4 or 5 be a combo of AK, Jefferson, Favors, Fez. All 6ft9 or bigger. We could almost have our own Twin Towers

I'd be happy to see AK ride of into the sunset and Fes dumped into the garbage bin where he belongs. I'll be awfully put out if either of these two are on the team next year.

Well lets sign then and then trade them at the deadline. If Ak is willing to sign for 6-8 million I think there would be plenty of teams lining up to trade for him.

I just like the fact that Fez is 7 ft plus and he would probably be pretty cheap.

I would be happy to have AK at a savings of $12M per year from his contract this year.

He is a valuable player... just not for $18M per year.

I don't want AK back at all. I am tired of his antics and yeast infections that keep him out for 5 games every month.

I doubt it's Miles. CJ just said in an interview today and said he hopes the Jazz pick up the team option for next year. He also said he wants to sign an extension.

I'll even give this its own thread.

Millsap has two more years on his contract. He is not going anywhere unless we trade him.

I am 100% that it was Bell. It would not surprise me if it was Millsap but I doubt it. I think they are on the verge of asking him to go back to the bench and I'm not sure that will sit well. It could be Jefferson but he was giving everything he had while we were still in the hunt for the playoffs. I think Millsap or Jefferson need to go. I prefer to keep Jefferson. They play too much alike to be successful on the floor together. And neither of them will be happy as the 6th man.

Do you really think AK is going to take that big of a cut when he knows the Jazz extended Memo for 9+ million?

Besides with all these draft picks and young players the Jazz need to be wise who they spend money on. If they don't then the Jazz may find themselves in the same situation they did when trying to match Matthews. Jazz may have five lottery picks on the team in two years (Hayward, Favors, 2 picks this year and another next along with having to pay CJ, Millsap and AJ). How are they going to have money to spend on AK and keep all our young talent?
The window of opportunity in the NBA is short so the Jazz need to get the kids up and running in order to take a few shots at competing for a championship. Keeping players like AK around will only slow down the development of our younger players while financially strapping the franchise for years. Paying AK too much would certainly lead to another "Matthews situation" where the franchise has to lose a young talented player because we extended an aging vet (Memo).

I'd guess that the Jazz will have 6 lottery picks on the team in two years-- Hayward, Favors, the Net's pick and our own this offseason, and the Warrior's pick and our own pick in 2012 (I doubt we will make the playoffs next year...).

This could turn into OKC or this could turn into the LA Clippers (pre-Griffin). Fun.

here's the context from the article:

But while the Jazz awkwardly balance the present with the future, some players on Utah’s current roster have been left to openly wonder just what the team is playing for with 11 regular-season games to go.

Meanwhile, one under contract in 2011-12 already has acknowledged that his time in Salt Lake City will likely come to an end once a season that has not lived up to expectations is over.

“We’ve got to get out there and play,” Millsap said. “If we keep telling ourselves and not getting it done, we’re going to find our way out of the playoffs.”

is the "one under contract" Millsap?

no way does KOC put a team out there with that many young guys. if we end up with 2 picks in this draft, he'll trade one away or use it to stash away some euro.

my thoughts are bell, surely he'd want to go somewhere he has a chance to win whilst the end is nearing.

hopefully another team helps him to achieve that goal!

you all wish it was Bell. he is still getting plenty of minutes. Millsap is the one Smith mentioned in the very next sentence in the article.

The addition of Favors does clearly make him more expendable and got to believe everyone in Jazz organization is getting tired of getting killed on the boards almost every night. If we draft a big man (remember we already watched Kanter work out) he is probably right.

The only two people it could possibly be are Bell or Jefferson. And given the fact that Jefferson endured years in Minnesota without a peep, I would imagine it's going to the the vet Bell. I can sort of feel for him, as he is old and looking to play for a contender. That said, he's terrible, so I don't really care.

Can you really picture Millsap saying something like he wants out of Utah? Dude is too blue collar for that.
