Ya I still do it.
Got to take risks to get a championship. And so what if we lose kanter. We still have gobert, favors, and booker. Not really even that risky..... Especially since we might lose kanter for nothing anyway

I dont see what you are taking the risk for. He is a unrestricted FA if you like him just try and sign him in the off season. Having him here for half a season will just hurt our draft pick and not help us sign him any more than if he was not here. Trade Kanter if something good comes along (not a half season rental). If nothing good comes along hold on to him (give him more time to develop and show who he is) and see how much he signs for and then decide if its worth matching or look into sign and trades.

Because if you get him here now, maybe he develops friendships with our players, maybe he develops a nice report with our coaches, maybe he likes the city, ect ect.
If you wait till the off-season the we are just a one of a bunch of teams trying to get him (and a crappy team at that) nothing would make us stand out.
Maybe we get him this year and go on a nice winning streak and he sees us as contenders soon

I agree.

I put him in there because it's an option. I'm not saying it's a great one.

I'd probably rather try to trade Kanter for Stauskas, Porter, or Thomas.

But I agree, don't trade Kanter for nothing. Get something decent

Hmm I dont see those as big factors or factors that he would only get if on the team. I also see those as a 50/50 risk if on the team, since the opposite could just as easily happen, but I guess that is an argument you could make to take a risk.

Ya it's not a great reason to do the trade.

The case for trading Kanter is as follows. . .

A.) He's an offensive big who is young and still improving/developing, so he has value - even as a RFA.

B.) Rudy Gobert has made him (and his future contract) expendable, putting him firmly inthe tradeable asset column instead of the "player we have to keep" column.

C.) He's a RFA, but he's still not Unrestricted. Don't underestimate the value of being able to match his contract. Jazz already proved that they're willing to match contracts. I could see other teams feeling the same way with the cap expected to jump in two years.

D.) The Jazz have time to get him healthy and rehab his trade value. The easiest way IMO is to bring him off the bench AND have him play most of his minutes with Gobert. Rudy makes everyone look better.

E.) Trading him at the deadline will free the Jazz up from his $12.4 million cap hold and allow them some cap flexibility to be players in free agency.

F.) Originally thought that 2016 was the year to make a blockbuster move, but have re-adjusted that timeline due to Gobert showing he's a potential franchise big. There's a limited window of opportunity to utilize the Jazz assets most efficiently if they package Kanter, Burke and draft picks. I'm not looking for spare parts though. If I trade Kanter (and Burke), I'm going all in on a potential home run wing to pair with Hayward. Nothing else moves the needle enough for me to give up my assets, but I'd pay a premium price to get the right guy.

G.) I really wouldn't mind holding on to Kanter and just matching his contract, but I don't like the idea of Kanter making big money in Utah while Rudy starts over him. I'd say that they could match his contract and trade him next offseason, but I hope the Jazz learned that contracts become more complicated when someone else negotiates them for you and can add player options and trade kickers. If nothing develops on the trade front, I start Gobert for the rest of the season, play Kanter off the bench and re-evaluate during RFA.

H.) I think that having cap space and flexibility NOW before the TV money kicks in could really benefit the Jazz if they want to attract a player or two. They look to have a solid core of young players in Gobert, Favors, Hayward, Burks and Exum. Getting a legit starting PG and a better bench will make this a very solid team in the near future.

I wouldn't trade Kanter for anything less than a third option on a championship contender. He will lead the league in scoring some day.

I can't believe so many people selected Nik Stauskas. Unless he is a throw in to a trade Kanter has proven way more than Nik has.

Kewl, Nik also doesn't play the same position as Rudy and isn't up for a new contract.

so over 50 % of you wouldnt be smart and trade enes for dragic? Some of you doesnt seem to consider dragic will be a free agent after this season and would leave utah because he wants to play for a surefire playoffteam which the jazz arent. So basically you would trade for dragic for 25 games?
I would do that if dragic were able to get the jazz in the playoff which isnt the case.

I am picking Otto Porter Jr because of his rookie scale/contract and the jazz need more depth on the wing. Stauskas is also smart IMO...

2 years from now we will have to admit that favors had to be the odd man out and start asking ourselves why he was untouchable.

I'm pretty dumb today. Didn't see Dragic on the list or I would have voted for him. Still either him or Thomas I'd be pretty happy with.

You mean the guy signed for 4 years at $12 million per, that plays Defense, likes being in Utah, and actually improves his game each year? THAT Derek Favors? The guy with the studly PER? Cause I cant picture saying "Man we should have kept the poor man's AL Jefferson over that dude. . ."

I sat here and thought for a while... can't see D-Will happening due to his insane salary. I like Wroten as he can score and play defense.

And with Gobert at C Favors will have better numbers as a PF. Also, it's funny how people talk about Kanter 'only being 22 and how much he'll improve'. Yeah... well Favors is a whole 10 months older than Kanter at age 23. Boom!
