Prior to the season we had people on here excited about the prospect of the Mavs being so bad they would have to trade us Luka!
I was hopeful as well and thought the Kyrie and Luka combo wont work (two defensively limited stars). But adding Lively, Gafford and Washington really turned that boat 180.

But fact is no team in the West was a world beater last season. I bet one or more will be 3 years from now.

I get the Wemby thing. But in the era of super-teams, if the Spurs aren't title-worthy in the next 1-3 years, I suspect we'll run into some other ungodly collection of talent that could be equally formidable.

I went with 4-6 years from now based on that's when I think our team will be the most competitive, regardless of what happens with Lauri in the next month.

Yep. Future is hard to predict.

Yeah but if you don't absolutely hit on a top 20 caliber player in the next two drafts then that 4-7 year window isn't some magical spot

Yep. Building a contender isn't easy, no doubt.

We are in a spot (assuming Lauri re-signs) where if we hit on a top 5 pick in this year's draft we could have the blue chip prospect, Lauri, and a host of young promising prospects, infinity cap space, and a bunch of assets to play with. Trying to duct tape together a winner with the brandon Ingrams of the world is gonna get us in the neighborhood of the Sacramento Kings... be patient. Wemby ain't winning all the titles in a few years. That ain't how this works.

This is one of the best posts I’ve read on this board in a long time.

Then you have to trade Sexton?

This. There will be more Brandon Ingrams to be had in other off seasons.

Basically what I have been saying throughout this entire thread

You do whatever we did last season when we went 5-29 but do that for the whole year.
This roster is basically that roster but with no tht and no Dunn and add the rookies.

Except it doesn't work that way. The team gave up. The team isn't going to start the season giving up

So Ingram is mediocre and makes you the Kings but Sexton is great but will also let you tank?
No but don't go out of your way to acquire more guys of that ilk right now until you get the blue chip prospect. Then go get those guys. Trying to short cut the process at this point has an upside of the Kings imo. Lauri + Blue Chip Prospect + Developing Rookies + BI/Sexton level guys that you can acquire - thats the formula I'd be working on. The order is important though.

Like right now the projected starting lineup, if we are to believe Tony Jones, is going to be

Sexton
Keyonte
Williams or Hendricks
Lauri
Kessler

That starting 5 is going to win a decent amount of games and believe in each other.

In the past the Jazz were able to trade a starter to demoralize the team. They can't do that with that team (unless they trade Sexton).

I get what you're saying, but you're also wrong and being dramatic. The amount of assets the Jazz have its impossible to just be another team. Especially since there hasn't been a call to spend a great deal of assets to make these trades.

I'm fine taking a tank forward approach, I just don't think it can be done with Sexton on the team if you are keeping Lauri

Lauri only played 5 games in March and April. I think you have to play him at least 65 to be eligible for awards.
