What's new

Who is currently the biggest waste of talent in the NBA?

Carmelo Anthony, a real "black hole" who does not make his teammates better, plays p-poor defense and is a coach killer, point guard killer, and an enormous cap space eater! Derrick Rose, one dimensional, one on one obliviator who also gets seriously hurt EVERY YEAR?

Mike Beasley. Legit All-Star level scoring talent, should be dropping 20/game in his sleep, but just doesn't have the brains to match. Already kind of rotting away at the ripe old age of 26.

This and telfair ftw

Beasley is a good one.

I tend to not really think of guys like Telfair since he never really showed that much, IMO. It was a lot of unwarranted hype. A guy like Beasley you could actually tell he had some serious offensive game from Day 1, but couldn't be bothered to really work on it.

Beasley's NCAA stats were just stupid. Here's his first five NCAA game stats...

Game 1: 32 pts 24 reb
Game 2: 30 pts 14 reb
Game 3: 28 pts 22 reb
Game 4: 30 pts 10 reb
Game 5: 30 pts 13 reb

Averaged 26.2 pts 12.4 reb per game on the season. I had high hopes for him and I feel like if he puts the work in he can be a really good player. I doubt it's going to happen though.

What about the Jimmer?

beasley is the biggest one fo sho. hmmm how about derrick williams?

That's another good one. I personally was never high on Derrick, but he definitely has physical tools that make you think he should be better than he is.

Re: Beasley. Him and Durant played on the same AAU team and were buddies growing up. I don't know if it's good fit for OKC currently, but Durant might be the one guy that could keep Beasley dialed in if it were somehow to happen. It will be interesting to see what happens with Mike in free agency. I really don't see anybody taking more than a 2 year shot on him, if that.

There have been some good ones, but the Josh Smith mention didn't get enough love. Overflowing with size, skill and athletic ability, but only hurts every team he's on.

The OP was asking "currently" so if we dive into the history we can get more examples for underachieving I guess.

Sam Bowie anyone?

Keith Van Horn?
