Who is our long term #1 Superstar Stud?

To win a championship you need a #1 Offensive option Superstar Stud who will carry you to a title. If you have a good defensive team around him, your star doesn't need to be a great defender (see Dirk last season.) Championships are usually won by great players (Wade, Shaq, Kobe, etc.) with the right team around them. We need a centerpiece for our team.

The Jazz haven't had a superstar since Karl Malone left. You need a player would demands double teams in isolation, so in the playoffs when the other team knows you plays and tendencies you have an unbeatable offensive option to get good shots.

Who is it going to be?

Let's take a look at the current roster:

Millsap just doesn't have physical tools to have a chance. He needs to become a great 6th man again.

Harris just isn't that good.

Al Jefferson could become a #1 offensive option on a championship. He needs to learn how to pass out of a double and make his moves more quickly. He needs to improve his D a little but there is a chance IMO. I wouldn't rate it as likely but it might happen. This is a tough call as a franchise because he stands in the way of Kanter and Favors.

I see Hayward as a very efficient 2nd or 3rd option. IMO he has no chance of being a #1 offensive option. He plays very well off other players and can create some opportunities in the Pick'n'Roll but you can't isolate him and draw double teams.

Kanter is a mystery man. Who knows what he can and can't do in the long term. Maybe he has some potential as a #1 option who is adequate defensively.

Burks' game and physical skillset makes him a natural scorer. He has the potential to be the best perimeter scorer the Jazz have ever had. I would say he had a real chance to become a #1 scoring option. We have to hope that reaches the top end of his potential.

Favors is our best hope to be a two-way superstar. He has the physical tools. Reportedly he has the mentality to maximize his potential. I think it is more likely he is a good 3rd scorer and difference maker on the boards and on the defensive end.

So we need to be looking for the right trade and for the right draft pick to acquire the number one stud.

Who do you see as a potential superstar?

Dude, i think you are right on with Hayward, Burks, and Kanter, but I think your pretty far off when it comes to Favors. Favors is going to be a beast in this league. give him 2 to 3 years and he'll prove to be a legit number one option. His numbers will be around Garnets. The one thing that is perhaps most promising about Favors that i have seen is the soft touch he has around the basket. he uses the backboard beautifully!! Dwight Howard does not have that kind of touch!! Favors has every tool in the bag to become a special player. it's rather he wants to or not. that is the difference maker. Hayward and Burks will provide a solid 2nd and 3rd punch. Kanter is hard to say. I think our team will be balanced fairly well. Balance will be Key!!

Well, if you're looking for a player of that caliber good luck. As much as I like our young nucleus, I'm not sure there's anyone on this roster who is able to "carry you to a title" offensively. I do think Al could be a go-to scorer in the lowpost on a good team. Think Favors has all the tools to be an allstar - it will all come down to how hard he works at it. Think Hayward could be a very good playmaker on the perimeter. Think we have the chance to assemble a very good team within the next 2-4 years. Just not sure there's any future top-5 nba superstar on the roster.

Favors or Burks.

I agree! While I think all our young guys have potential to be good players, burks and Favors have the potential to be super stars in this league. But I think Hayward will be the steady good player on our team and may be the best of the young guys this season and possible the first to get an allstar bid.

I would say Favors at this point. Burks looks like he can be a good player but I would like to see him play more before making any predictions.

Utah probably won't have a top 5 player out of these guys but could very well have 5 in the top 30 or so. That's pretty good. ESPN's player rankings are completely retarded though.

You're probably right. But if a championship is the goal you have to look for the opportunity to pick up a great player.

Favors has a long ways to go. He hasn't gotten the ball enough to score 5 times in a row and demand a double team. When the double happens he has to make the right pass. He needs a go-to post move and a effective counter move. His footwork as a faceup player needs a lot of work.

The sky is the limit for Favors but it isn't one small step to superstardom, it is 4 or 5 big steps. We should be able to see a big improvement this season that will help us see what his career trajectory is going to be.

Let's put it like this--if the Jazz win a championship in the next 5 years, it will be because of Favors.

A lot of hype of Burks. I think the excitement is warranted, but we haven't seen him play one game for us.
No summer league, preseason or anything. Let's not get carried away here people.

He's one of the most exciting things about this season, but I'm not going to start calling him the future until I see him in a real game.

Yet to be drafted. If the Jazz are miserable over the next few seasons, and if KOC utilizes his assets (expiring deals and eventually cap space) to pick up even more draft picks, then maybe the Jazz can get lucky and get a guy of championship caliber. They don't come along often.

This, I just can't decide which one though. I'm 40/40 between these two, with the other 20 on Hayward.

Good call.

I am still not that high on Burks though. Have yet to see much more than Almond out of him. Gotta give the guy a season or so to see what he can do in the NBA. From what I have read and seen I just don't see super-star written all over this kid.

I wasn't all that excited about him until I saw him at the charity game up at SLCC. He looks really good. I am excited now.

Me too. I knew he could drive and finish in college. But he was pulling up for 3's and looking incredibly smooth while he made 3 in a row. If he can play passable defense I don't see how CJ Miles and Raja Bell see the court much.
