This was brought about because of Kanter's game last night, but I've honestly been thinking about this for over a week.

I love Favors and his size and athleticism are elite level, but I question whether or not he has the personality to dominate rather than defer. In Kanter I see less raw talent, obviously, but a kid that legitimately wants to be the best and has the fire and aggressive nature to get there.

SO.....my question is, who WILL be the better player in 5 years NOT who could?

I still think the odds are in favor of Favors. A couple of go-to moves on offense and some confidence will do wonders.

Can't really answer without a could.
Kanter seems to want to be the best player in the league. His offensive skill set is already a very nice foundation to work from. Favors has none. Kanter rebounds like a beast. These are the reasons I'm going with Kanter, but it's been a tough mental battle for me all season long.

I would like to think both and here is the reasoning....

Kanter on the offensive end and rebounding
Favors on the defensive end and rebounding

I would like to see them compliment each other. Because this league is viewed as an offensive league and those players get the props I could see Kanter being the 'better' player. Of course I think Favors has all the 'potential' in the world but unless he gets down 3 solid post moves (That is all he needs), it wont happen. If I were his coach I seriously would be having him develop only 3 - move to his right, to his left, and the fade away/jumpshot.

But just as I said last night in the game thread, I think right now, I enjoy seeing Favors/Kanter/Millsap together vs. having Jefferson in the rotation. The one thing we KNOW for sure we will get with Favors and Kanter is rebounding, toughness, and defensive effort. The offensive game comes in spurts. With Jefferson we get an offense that can either excel when he is or really struggle when he is not. The defense also is impacted greatly with Jefferson on the floor vs. one of the young kids.

Man this is tough.. As much as I would love to see Favors turn into DHoward, I'm really not liking what I'm seeing from him so far this year. Every once in a while he shows glimpses of that massive potential, but I thought he would take a big step forward this year. You look at Kanter, at 19 years old, hasn't played organized ball in over a year, and the way he has come in and outmuscled other big men, holy sh*t. Once he gets his timing down on the offensive end, he will be an absolute beast. He has been an absolute joy to watch. So while Favors has the potential, Kanter seems to have the heart and desire to be great.

I am going with Kanter but mostly because I like his style better. I think their quality will be close but thankfully they are different players with different skill sets.

I think Favors will have more "wow" games in the span of that 5 years, i.e. 32pts 13rbs but followed by 7 and 6 in 35mins. Where as Kanter will be more consistent overall.

I honestly want Ty to start making Favors refer to himself in 3rd person and not let him into the gym until he thinks he's the best player on the floor in any game. If he had that mentality you'd be looking at Dwight Howard 2.0, IMO.

Favors will be better, both offensively and defensively. kanter makes me worried that he will never be able to finish in traffic... You can have all the footwork in the world, but if you are consistently getting blocked because you have no lift or cant lay the ball in effectively, then footwork is sorta a moot point. At least favors can and will dunk over people, has down the ability to rebound as well as kanter, and is already a tremendous help and man defender. He develops 2 go to moves and kanter will not physically be able to match him imo

Still saying Favors. He has shown improvement in his shooting this year at the FT line and willingness to take jump shots (even though he isn't really making them yet). He need to work on his footwork and patience a lot. I think that can be learned though. I disagree with the lack of fire many here claim Favors to have. He rebounds pretty well too. He isn't as aggressive as Kanter is on the glass, but he seems to get just as many "big" rebounds as Kanter does.

Also, when Favors get the ball in the post, I'm actually curious as to what will happen. He either has a great move, terrific finish, or a travel.

Kanter is always, back man down super low, pump fake, get stuffed, rebound, get stuffed, possibly make the 3rd attempt. I'm also constantly infuriated by his refusal to use the backboard.

IMO, Kanter is still SUPER nervous on the offensive end.

Kanter is the better player for the next 2 years.
Favors after that only if he develops some sort of competitive spirit.

Kanter is a beast. Mentally and physically tough already, and ridiculously inexperienced . Favors is all potential and still a question mark. End of story.

franklin and I don't exactly get along, but I'll defend him here. Favors looked tentative and didn't have much of an offensive game when this thread was made. Kanter had already posted several monster games considering the time he was getting. And franklin did say it was a tough choice. Given Favors' low-key personality, I think it was difficult to predict he'd have the drive to improve his offensive game like he has. And Kanter turning into an ******* was equally unpredictable.

Cool cherry pick. Srs.

I was always back and forth on Kanter in the offseason, with hope, but overall I was negative on him from the start. You want me to repost all my MS Paint pictures and all the quotes calling me a troll when I called him Kwame Kanter early into his first season? Calling to trade him before his value plummets like Tibor Pleiss?

I'm never wrong. It's why all you nut riders hate on me. They always want to tear down those on top.
