What's new

Why are we getting blown out early?

Well I have to disagree with this assessment, the fact is the starters are closing out the games and thats when the last few have been won. Although I wouldnt mind swapping Ak and Cj in the starting lineup

Your facts are dead wrong. The starters have not been finishing. CJ has been finishing and in one of them Fess basically finished.

I think it's just they're used to having Carlos out there. With Big Al, everyone is overthinking things instead of just playing. When crunch time comes, with the deficits the Jazz have had, no one has time to think about it. They just go out and play.

I think this is pretty close to accurate. In the first quarter of every game on this trip, I thought the starters were playing robotic. But in second halves, they're fighting for their lives and instincts take over. The one thing I really, really, really like about this team, and it speaks to your point about Boozer, is that we're ego-less. Not that Booze ever did anything wrong, and Deron has definitely asserted himself more in crunchtime, but the whole team is playing for a score. It's not dump it to Al or Sap, it's not wait for Deron to do something, it's do the little things and get the best shot.

Getting in sync is just something kind of out of their control still. They're still learning to play together and just seem to can't get rolling right at the start, but we're 7-3 despite honestly some crappy basketball and they're showing the mental toughness that will pay off huge once they start to play well together. I'm hoping they start to get in sync by the time Memo is ready and I think he'll be huge with his new role player status.

I think that we will start to see changes as far as how the Jazz come out in the begining of the game. Right now they just look like they are too calm, they could come out with a little more intensity. I am however loving the winning on the road especially against excellent teams. Cant wait to see the noise that we can make as the season rolls on.

...we definitely don't miss Boozer...but maybe we miss Brewer, who was good for 2-4 alley-oop dunks in just about every 1st quarter....before disappearing for long stretches of time after that?

What's all the fuss about? First half aint nuthin. We averagin over 60 pts in the second half. 4-0 on the road, Baby:

Heat? Dead-*** meat

Magic? Them sukkaz just tragic

Hawks? Done been stalked

Charlotte? Rid like a harlot

What? Me worry?

I really think it's Deron. He doesn't seem to get mentally focused until the second half, for whatever reason. Maybe he thinks he can take the game over whenever he wants, and it's getting to the point where maybe he actually can, at least a lot of the time.

This.

I'm not sure of Sloan's exact subbing patterns but early on, I'd like to see Raja benched at the 6 minute mark with CJ sliding in his spot the last six minutes of the first quarter, and then Raja sliding back in at the beginning of the 2nd at the 2 with C.J. moving over to the 3 as AK exits for those first six minutes in the 2nd. Something like this.

Yessiree, we had eveyone of those in the bag all the way, right? Sure was interesting that Sloan knew Milsap could make 3 3's in the last 30 seconds. I wonder what he calls that play.

These wins have been great, they have been fun, they have been exciting. But ya know what? The way that Boston handled Miami in Miami was much more impressive: they had them down big the whole game and never let them up for air. I still say that right now, the way the Jazz are playing, if they face Orlando or Miami right now in a 7 game series, they would lose 4-2. They need to finish first quarters up by 10, not down by 15.

i think they need to watch more film

;)

seriously, though, as TICC mentioned, I think they might be overthinking a bit, not just about their own play, but taking too much time trying to figure out what their opponents are doing (and in that regard, maybe watching some film of their opponents would help, or maybe it would make it worse by giving them even more to think about?)

anyhow, it just seems like their basketball instincts don't kick in until later in the game and Fes and AJ in particular to me seem to have some problems anticipating what their teammates are going to do (not sure how much is "learning the plays", how much is instinct and getting used to each other and how much is "basketball IQ" related)

There may be something to the missing Carlos deal early. He knew the offense and was good at exposing teams until they adjusted. Big al for all his talents does not know the offense as well and seems to take a little while to get comfortable right now and Millsap is more of a work horse than an early starter. We need one of them to get into the flow earlier and get us some of those early easy baskets.

Overall this team does not miss Carlos AT ALL.

None of the above.

Every game, teams are playing them different defensively, and it takes the Jazz a while to change what they are doing to something that works. This stems from not knowing all the plays and options.
