Why aren't we getting Kanter & Favors to work with Legends?!?!

Did'nt Lebron work with Hakeem as well last year to improve his post game?

The Jazz probably seem to think that their Peak performance project in CA is the panacea for everything. Can it impart Kanter some explosiveness in his first step?

Stoudemire will spend two weeks with Hakeem Olajuwon in Houston next month. The cost of learning The Dream Shake? $50,000 a week is what we were told. Now, we don’t know of Olajuwon is charging Stoudemire full price, but Amar’e plans to get bang for his buck. He said he plans to memorize every lesson so he can expand his game to include one or two go-to moves on the post. Stoudemire has been known as mostly a pick-and-roll player who developed a mid-range jumper in 2010-11. Mike Woodson wanted him to be more of a threat in the post, so he asked his former Rockets teammate to spend some time with Stoudemire. - Robert Littal

maybe its out of the rookie contract price range?? imagine favors and kanter both with 'go-to' post moves??

But he was already a pretty good player in his own right? Even before working with Hakeem?

Bynum just became a super star more or less overnight when Kareem took him under his wings.

No. Bynum was already a stud. He was just finally healthy enough to play major minutes all year.

AMARE developed his jumper when he was out for a season about a decade ago.
Before that, he was awesome matched up against Duncun in the playoffs, but got robbed by the refs, like many young stars..

we've got video tape. their moves are not freaking military secrets.
I'll do the job for 60k a year for the whole damn squad.

hakeem is the wrong fit to work out with kanter because kanter doesn't have olajuwon's tools to begin with. hakeem was a freak at his height, a guy with the skill set of a perimeter player but the height of a center. he could put the ball on the floor, drive, pass, steal... might be the most versatile big man ever to have played. that's not where kanter is headed, so it makes more sense for him to get some basic coaching on post moves and interior defense.

malone has already publicly stated that he's willing to provide some coaching. i know the franchise has said they don't want him around given his inconsistency and independability, but they were OK with horny on a part-time basis for years. every hour kanter/favors spent with malone would only help them.

Hakeem has been raving about Stoudemire, saying he's mastering moves immediately, and lots of them. I am so crushing the Knicks over this year. Carmello lost 15 pounds and looked good in the Olympics. Stoudemire working with Hakeem. Both have a ton to prove after last year. Kidd and Felton > Davis and Bibby and Lin. I predict 52-30 for the Knicks.

I can see that. I know the personalities are unpopular, but they could be very good if they're working together.

Melo losing weight doesn't mean that he will pass it more. Stoudemire might have improved his post game, but that doesn't mean that he will get the ball more. Felton and Kidd are not spot up shooters. I think that the Knicks have improved slightly but I doubt they reach 50 wins this year. I am thinking that it will be closer to 45 or so.

You're crazy. Their win percentage last year was 45 win pace. And they'll be much improved.

I agree with Orangello. Everything they improved on was not meaningful. The biggest reason why they weren't successful is Melo. Melo does whatever he wants. The greats understand that there offensive moves depends on how the defense is playing them. Melo is stuck in his own world on the court and just does whatever pops into his head. Melo losing weight is meaningless in terms of what caused them to be so bad last year.

Amare will greatly improve his game but I do think he will be getting the ball more now because of Felton and Kidd. Lin was a ball hog. Felton and Kidd will work at getting Amare the ball more.

I still do not think they will get into the top 3 in the East though. 4 at the highest but my guess is 5 or 6 in the East.

Teams that will be better than Knicks(No particular order)
Miami Heat
Boston Celtics (Younger talent and Courtney Lee will surprise a lot of people with his defense and scoring along with Jason Terry).
Indiana Pacers (Only better with playoff experience)
Philly
(Bynum & Hawes together are going to surprise a lot of people and they have 3 point shooting now from J-Rich, D-Wright & Nick Young. Turner gets the ball in his hands which will make him better since Iggy(overrated) is gone.
Brooklyn Nets - This tough to say but I do think they will be better than the Knicks because of the balance on the court and D-Will & Joe Johnson understand playing the defense unlike Melo.

Teams looking on the outside in
Chicago Bulls - Nobody knows this one. I think they are bottom between 7-10 of the east. If Rose comes back in the last 2 months than things become more interesting
Bucks - After they got Ellis in the Bogut trade they went on a run and that was with Drew Gooden playing Center. They now have some shot blocking centers to pair with Ersan Ilyasova who had a break out year and will only get better.
Wizards - My gut tells my to say no way. But looking at them on paper they seem more balanced and talented. If John Wall can become efficient and if Nene and Okafor stay healthy than they could shock some people. Along with the Rookie Beal.
Hawks - Still making moves and if Horford comes back healthy he will get the ball more and they will be more efficient. But 7-10 also

Knicks are inbetween these groups of teams still. If Melo learns how to play the defense and pass at the right times and keep the defense guessing than the Knicks are contenders. But until that happens they will not be contending any time soon. I feel bad for anyone who has to play with Melo.

In terms of Favors and Kanter playing with "legends"......

Favors should play with Hakeem for sure. Duncan is for sure more ideal. Hibbert played with him a lot but they are in different conferences so I am sure the Spurs did not care. Favors has a lot of work to do in the post. If he learns 5 or so reliable post moves he will become a top 5 big man. But still a ways to go.

Kanter - Kanter has a perfect frame to move people out of the way. His problem is he doesn't understand how to create space and how to get his shot off. Malone mastered this at the end of his career because he could not jump anymore. If Malone could teach Kanter his baby hook underneath where he wouldn't even jump but always got it off....Kanter would become very good. Kanter need to release the ball quicker underneath. His arm length is not the greatest. But if he learns to create space than release quickly he would be hard to stop. His jumping ability is not as important for his scoring needs. Rebounding it helps him.

It's not osmosis. You don't just work with past greats and become great. And teaching isn't simply a matter of being good at what you do. You have to be able to actually transmit that knowledge.

I mean, KAJ also worked with Shawn Bradley when he first got to the league and a lot of good that did.

Those people making fun of Karl Malone teaching Kanter how to play either only recently became jazz fans or never really watched Karl Malone play or simply don't have a clue. Karl Malone had a go to move where he started on the low left block and bullied his way across the lane to shot a baby jump hook that was unstoppable for 10 years. Karl scored 20,000 points with that move. If Kanter learned how to force his way across the lane and shot that baby hook consistently he would be unstoppable. Throw in the up and under every once in awhile to keep people honest and you have a 20 and 10 player. If I were Kanter that is the go to move he needs to develop.

It is nice to know that I'm not the only one who remembers that move. I agree with you. Karl needs to teach Kanter that move.
