Why did we not sign James Johnson?

First degree black belt, hard nosed, and plays within his role. Rumors were spreading we'd sign him but never got around to it, and now he's helping Toronto out.

Because Utah signed Trevor Booker.
How many PF's do you want Utah to have? And if DL had signed Johnson AND Booker, whose minutes get cut...Favors'? Kanter's? I'm sure DL and QS thought Booker might be able to develop into a stretch-4. Johnson definitely has no range.

He can play the 3. He can defend the 3 too. His defense is pretty damn good and would've been cheaper probably.

But he can't shoot as a 3. He's an interior only player.
Maybe he would have been better or cheaper than Booker. Not saying he isn't a good player, but jazz are clearly in need of floor spacers. JJ is the "D" part of "3 and D," but he needs to develop an outside shot. He's currently <20%.

Being from Wyoming He would have no problem with living in SLC

Yes. All of Wyoming is completely the same as all of Utah. Anyone who can tolerate one can tolerate the other. They both suck, so people who like things that suck like both Utah and Wyoming.

Forget Johnson, who is that Drummound kid from Detroit? Why didn't the jazz sign him? Sure he gets dunked on, but then he enforced his will the next time down the floor. He could be a nice energy guy off the bench behind Enes and Favors, just so long as he didn't take much time from Rudy. Can Drummound play 3?

he has a second degree black belt in karate.
That could be awesome, if that is a Kyokushin degree
or
that could simply mean nothing in terms of fighting, if that is a shotocan't (originally Shotokan) degree.
