Why do we play so slow?

I mean zach randolph, marc gasol, tony allen are able to run the floor faster than the jazz because rudy?

I don't think so

I know we want Rudy to be a juggernaut two way force, but he just isn't. Gasol is though and they can play to that mismatch. If we are to build a team around Rudy, it's because of his defense. And if you build a team based on his defense, you don't run him out of gas getting down the floor for a bucket.

I wonder if play slow on offense so it'll help our defense? In the finals last year the Cavs played at a much slower pace and it seemed to help their defense for a little bit....that could explain why we play so slow.

But our half court offense is sometimes painful to watch, and we are nowhere near the defense we were last year

Different lineups have different strengths for sure. Exum-burks-hood-hayward-favors could run teams off the floor. Until those guys are back I don't see pace increasing anytime soon

Defense is the only way well match up with the likes of the Warriors in the near future.

As things stand now, Rudy is having trouble getting up and down the court, if you haven't noticed. Maybe it's because of his knee, not sure, but that certainly is a reason to slow us down.

I noticed he is having trouble jumping for blocks, he is not jumping high like before. There is for sure something related to the knee injury.

Well. we are the team with the highest passing rate, aren't we? It takes a lot of time to pass the ball around the perimeter several times before trying to take a shot. All that useless running around probably tires our players out. Kind of like the old adage to run vertical in football instead of horizontal. Jazz need to expend their energy running up and down the court, not side to side.

The Jazz are a team that is best when they're slowing the tempo and grinding teams to death. The pace isn't nearly as big of an issue as turnovers, stupid defensive mistakes and missed free throws. Fix those three areas and this team jumps from fringe playoff to 4th / 5th seed easily. How many times have the Jazz kept a team close to only lose the game due to one of those 3 factors?

Perfect record when keeping teams under 90 points this year. . . not so perfect when they score more than 100. The Jazz aren't built to run with other teams and it messes with their flow when they try.

For the second straight season we are the slowest team in the NBA, and it is not that close.

We have young players, playing half our games at high altitude. This makes no sense to me. I realize our point guards are terrible, but there are other teams with bad point guards (76ers, Nuggets, for example) that manage to play at a faster pace.

Please, help me understand.

Thanks.

Jazz do not have above average speed at any position (Exum could change this). And Jazz do not have great open floor players (exception Burks). And their skills and decision making in the open floor are poor (extra pass when not needed, not passing when they should). This last point could change with experience.

Jazz average league worse 1.16 points per break (last in league). Keep in mind this includes uncontested dunks/ layups off of steals.

And finally, when the Jazz run they risk not being in good defensive position as other teams with superior speed can quickly counterattack and then next thing you know we are losing a fast-paced high-scoring contest.

All that said, there is no correlation between pace and scoring efficiency. Equally likely that a great teams or a terrible team plays with pace. Teams should play with pace who have the talent to play with pace.

Memphis has 3rd slowest pace.
Exactly
You would think we could move up and down the court a little quicker than them ol' fogies
