WHY GRANDPA IS IMPRESSED WITH THIS TEAM

Obviously, we have some new rookies who are impressive. But what has me jacked about this group is the mindset and mental toughness that this group has shown so far. No wilting in the face of determined effort by the other team. No shooting themselves dead with long disjointed confusion and just plain pathetic play for full quarters. No inability to keep a lead and no quit when things are not going that well. In other words there seem to be a totally different team mentality than we have seen for many years. Why? To me the answer seems obvious and it starts with Quin and ends with Snyder. Don't know if this group can continue this on into the season but here's hoping this isn't some kind of wet dream. Loving this, how about you?

Snyder obviously seems like an excellent hire now for all the reasons you mentioned. DL was also a homerun hire by the Jazz. Honestly seeing how the Jazz are competing this PRESEASON makes it even more maddening that the Jazz gave Corbin a job after his interim appearance. I don't think Quin was ready at that time anyway. Plus we wouldn't have gotten Exum, Gobert, etc, ... so we have Corbin to thank for that I guess???

My comments were not meant to be "great" Lazy D and One Love. They were just meant to express my satisfaction with this team and the direction they are heading. Guess i need to be schooled in "greatness" so why not I/M me with all your posts so i can learn?

Without Corbin we would not have gotten Exum. I'm guessing we would have landed in McBuckets/LaVine range. Also doubtful we would have drafted Burke as the team could have made the playoffs the year before. Perhaps drafting Larkin or Schroeder as the 8th seed in the WC. May have also changed the direction of the franchise last year, with Miller and KOC winning the discussion over keeping Millsap and DMC instead of the full rebuild that DL championed. So no salary dump, no extra 1st and maybe even making the playoffs as a low seed.

So, we should thank Ty for being so bad, thank the front office for hiring such a bad coach? I DO think DL was satisfied to keep him last year to get the highest draft pick we could.

Couldn't agree more. This team couldn't be any different than the one we had last year. They have more talent on this team than anyone thought. It took getting a great coach to bring all that out. The next five years are going to be fun.

I totally agreed with your comment regarding QS, I think they've struck gold with him. It is also quite strange how nobody was giving him a chance and he had to make a 3-hour long presentation to the Millers just to convince them to take him, against 3 other candidates. He was clearly one of the architects that orchestrated the Hawks' unexpected rise last year.



This guy seems to me like he's the real deal.

They still need a #1 option. Dante may end up being a star, but I see him doing so as a pure PG and distributor. He's not really Kobe-like in his ability to score at will. I think they still need that guy. Find that guy and they could be really special.

I've also changed my mind about Burke. He's looked like a different player under Quin Snyder. I think that his upside is higher than I originally thought. A three man rotation of Burke, Exum and Burks as the primary guards could be very, very good moving forward.

I'm also happy with how Favors, Gobert, Booker and Hayward have all looked as well. Not sure what to think about Kanter. I'm hoping that he looks good enough to get good value out of a trade at the deadline and they can package him with some draft picks for a blockbuster deal. I love Kanter. Always have, but I'm nervous about committing big money to him considering his injuries, defensive liabilities and his stretches where he just doesn't play well. If they can't get a star, then they should keep him and see what the market bears next offseason. I don't want to give up on him, but I'm worried that Gobert will make him expendable and command a massive contract. I'd rather sell high if they're going to move on from Enes.

His three point is not ready. He should work on his release timing. Get more comfortable on it. This is not the way to be threat. Also he has mental wall to break down to get more consistent. Kanter has a really clean wrist like a shooter and he will always use it. He just has to stay more focused and relax and practice on in action contested shots instead of free shootarounds. Free shootarounds are bad for in game shooting comfort level.
