Why is Wiggins so hyped?

I didn't want every Kansas game this year, but I've watched a bunch of Wiggins highlights and don't understand why he'd be taken over Parker or Emblid. I get it - he's freakishly athletic and can jump out of the stadium. If I was Dennis Lindsay I'd have him as #3 on the big board. To me his offensive game looks so raw The majority of his highlights were dunks, putbacks, and awkward looking floaters. Can someone explain to me how he's so different than any other freakishly athletic 6'8 forward that's been drafted over the past 5 years?

his name is wiggins bro. wiggggiiiinnnsss. it just rolls off the tongue. wiggins. wiggins. gonna look bawse as **** on a jersey. hard to argue with that.

1. He was super hyped before the season.
2. He didn't really get up to that hype, but that wasn't all on him. Kanses's offense is pretty strict where the two wing players go straight to the corners and stand there.
3. He ended the season playing pretty well (embiid was out at this time too).
4. He has a lot of potential.

Why do people expect a guy to have himself together as a player by age 18 or 19? His natural athleticism and talent for the game enable him to do some unguardable things. He's not even 20 and he already looks like a young Dominique Wilkins, who couldn't dribble much either, btw.

.. and many like to cherry pick a game to show downside... (has happened a lot here).. but you could also point to him putting up 50+ as a HS player against a college team after getting pissed off by Thamel (NYT).

So to summarize he's freakishly athletic, scored a ton of points in high school, and is just plain going to be awesome. Sounds unassailable to me. Might as well engrave the next 5 or 6 MVP trophies with his name right now. So much objective and measurable evidence just cannot be wrong.

You must not have seen the games where he was hitting clutch 3's down the stretch.

There was on game where kansas was down a bunch and he hit like 4 tough three point shots in the last couple of minutes and they almost won the game. (A game they were going to lose by like 20)

He is also very long, plays great defense, rebounds well at his position, has an amazing spin move, has nice floaters, is very fast running the floor, has a nice looking jumper, improved his shooting from outside as the season wore on, and has a good attitude.

But ya, all he can do is dunk

And i forgot that he gets to the line alot, and shoots a good percentage from the line, and isnt afraid of contact.

Wiggins is all hype and no substance. IF you really break down his game there are glaring weaknesses. He has NO LEFT HAND. Like non whatsoever. I've watched almost all of his college games and he never goes left. The reports about him being passive and not an "alpha dog" are absolutely true. He has 9 Games with 10 points or less. In the loss to Stanford in the NCAA tournament he went 1-6 for 4 points. How does the best college player in the world only shoot 6 shots in a a tournament game(with Embiid injured). Basically what it comes down to is Wiggins is a freak athlete but a very ordinary player. He is Gerald Green 2.0.

Here is a great article from a blogger who covers the draft. He breaks down Wiggins game using Analytic's and watching tons of tape. This is a GREAT read
